    3. I've sent this letter to both you and the mailing list, so you can probably pick up the address from there and add it to your address book. That Sally (Tryon) Lewis is a sister to the Benjamin Tryon of Allegan Co. MI is a given, and is stated in all sorts of county histories. According to her grave marker, she was born 14 Jan 1813. Adelia Tryon is a little harder to track down. All I have connecting her to Benjamin Tryon is the fact that a Benjamin Tryon witnessed her wedding in Hillsdale Co. MI in 1844. Also, she and her husband Lyman seemed to follow Benjamin Tryon into Allegan Co. MI, after living in St. Joseph Co. MI for the first few years of their marraige. She was born circa 1829 and died sometime after 1860, when her last child was born. Deed records seem to put the date closer to 1862, but since deeds can lay around for a while before they are acted on and/or not get filed, I sometimes distrust the dates on them. I haven't found her grave marker yet. Since Sally married a man from Madison Co. NY, I took a long look at the William there who died in 1833. I suspected at one point that he may be the William of Greene Co. NY who was born to John and Catherine (Van Slyck) Tryon. Now, I just don't know. The William of Madison Co. NY died in 1833 would have a dau the right age to be Adelia, but some researchers but him in the Saybrook group. Tryon & Fanny White I suspect that Benjamin Peter Tryon may be the Peter Tryon living in Mendon TWP in 1860 with the Amos White family. He died before the 1870 census. Another tie in for Adelia with this group is the fact that Henry's dau, Henrietta, seems to be travelling with Lyman and Adelia, or at least living in the same area. Henry's wife, Martha (Wing) Tryon m2 Howard Hopkins, and we find them living in the same TWP in Kent Co. MI with Lyman and Adelia's grown kids after Adelia's death. The 1862 deed places Lyman and Adelia as residents of that county. Also in the TWP is Philitus Woods, who was living with Lyman and Adelia in 1850 (I have no idea how he fits in yet). The Wing and Hopkins families were in Washtenaw Co. before they were in St. Joseph Co. MI. Lyman's people were in Hillsdale/Lenawee Co. before St. Joseph. Several Tryon widows and orphans appear in these counties and I am also trying to track them down to prove how they connect. I can send you my MI database, if you would like. Vicki ---------- | From: JDGERNON@ix.netcom.com | To: vtitus@ipa.net | Subject: Benjamin Tryon | Date: Sunday, June 29, 1997 5:11 PM | | I tried to answer an old query of yours but evidently you have changed e- | mail providers. I have Benjamin Peter Tryon Bpt. 21 May, 1785 at | Coxsackie, NY. From various censuses and other documents he had 9 | children. Identified are Peter (m. Sarah Stevens)b. 2 Apr 1814,Benjamin | b. 1815, Rachel (m. Bradford Sheldon) b. 1817, Francis (m. ? White)b. | 1824,Henry b. 1830, Dusilla (Priscilla ?) b. 1834. Unidentified females | b. 1804-10, b. 1810, b. 1818-20. Benj. P. Was in Tioga and Tompkins | Counties (NY) up through the 1840 census. Then in St. Joseph 1n 1850. I | found him in a special census in 1854 but don't know where he went. I | think he moved on because his son Benjamin disappeared fron Allegan Co. | at the same time. Benj. P.'s wife was Mercy from a deed. His father was | Peter and grandfather was Benjamin. Peter had a brother Benjamin who had | a grandson Benjamin b. 1813 in Greene Co. NY. You may be confusing the | two. There were so many Benjamins and Peters through the generations, it | was hard to distinguish them all. Benj. (1813) married Jane Smith and was | the father of Admiral Rufus Tryon, whose letters I have. I have nothing | on Adelia or Sally. Do you have ages that might fit some of Benjamin | unidentified daughters. | I have too much on these people for an e-mail. If you will send me | your mailing address, I will send you family group sheets as a start. | I tried to contact the tryon web site at TRYON-L@rootsweb.com with | no success. At rootsweb.com I couldn't find where to go to get to Tryon. | Any suggestions? | Dean Gernon at jdgernon@ix.netcom.com |
