He is the eldest son of Caleb TRYON and Catherine FRYE of North Crosby and, almost surely, the grandson of Lucas TRYON of Middletown, Middlesex, CT who is a 5th generation descendant of William TRYON (of Wethersfield. These are my wife's ggrandparents. I have 5 more children recorded from the 1871 and '81 censuses of North Crosby. One of them, Charles E. ended up in Saskatoon as a newspaperman and a younger brother brother, G. Fred(erick) went as far as Calgary where he died and was brought back to Saskatoon for burial from the home of his brother. Maxwell Tryon, descendant of another brother, lives in Saskatoon, but I have not yet contacted him (sort of waiting in case some Westerner wanted to be first<g> Ann??). I have on-line friends who have just sold their condo in Kingston and, as part of their retirement travel plans, are moving next to Saskatoon. To help introduce her to research in Saskatoon <g>, I've asked her to look into Charles's family. > Is this any assistance. Yes, you just filled in a few critical blanks. Everything will help to flesh out the family. There is a TRYON Family discussion group which is somewhat??<g> preoccupied with the American Family (really because most of us came to wherever through the States), but, at least one major contributor has direct links to Quebec TRYONs and NS WOODS. My gf Edric Milbury (see my sig below) cam directly from Portland, ME to Montreal. Dan Brevik is preparing to publish a web page of The TRYON Union. He is using The Master Genealogist (TMG) for Windows 3.0 into GED2HTML and running into hickups because of the size, quantity and complexity of TMG files. Your wife has two cousins on the list, descended through George's half-brothers, who have provided much of the data gathered on Caleb's descendants and I am cc'ing them with this message. They are Anne Margerison of BC and Raymond Tryon of Utica, NY. At present, I am co-ord for the gathering of Canadian lines--except for Pam Wood Waugh's QC family--and forwarding data to Dan. I have the data on the family in the following formats: 1) GEDCOM from Personal Ancestral File(PAF) 2.31 (LDS Church program); 2) Descendancy chart of line from William of Wethersfield in Word Perf for Win 6.1 and other Tryons whose lineage has been resident in Ontario; and, of course, 3) The data files in PAF 2.31 format. We make extensive use of WinZIP/PKZip to transfer data on-line and are able to accept most WP, Family Tree Maker (DOS/WIN), Brother's Keeper and a few other's files. I have ordered PAF3.0/DOS as an improvement on 2.31 and the price is very right (US$15 + 2). Thank you for your message and I'm looking forward to introducing another cousin to the Family. > We have access to the B/M/D records of Ontario here in Edmonton from > 1869 > to the early 1900's I'll let you guage your input after or if you wish to examine the data on file. 2. Hi, Cousin. I agree, there are quite a few of us "Dons". It's my middle name, but that is the one I have always gone by. Here is my Line: Joseph Donald Tryon of San Juan Capistrano, CA...son of Alton E. Tryon of Edinboro, PA & Los Angeles, CA...son of Eugene Tryon of Edinboro, PA...son of Timothy Tryon of ?MA; York, New York; and Edinboro, PA...son of Timothy Tryon of Middleton, CT and York, New York...son of William Tryon of Middleton and Greenfield, CT...son of Abel Tryon of Wethersfield and Middleton, CT...son of William Tryon of Gloucestershire, ENG and Wetherfield, CT. I'm looking for any decendents of Eugene Tryon. If you hear of any, please have them contact me. I haven't done much work on my genealogy for the past six years, but I'm back into it again. We use Family Tree Maker by Banner Blue. Wes M. Tryon's " The Tryon Family In America", rev. 1984, was a tremendous help to me, plus my own research in Edinboro, PA and the York, Livingston County, Clerks' Office in Geneseo, NY for the missing links. My biggest handicap is that I have never met, or know of any relatives on my father's side. Hope to hear from you all, Don

    3. Hi Don, had a call from a lady in the town of Breton, Alberta last week, after Shirley & I were on the local news following the Texas tornados..(long story, no time)..anyhoo she heard our name and said she came from a large family of Tryons in the Breton area, whose grandfather was from Ontario. She has a niece in Ontario doing some geneology on their branch of the tree and will get it for me. I'll send her a copy of your message on the Ontario side of the clan and she may be able to pick up her threads from it. I'll also include a copy of the blank tree you gave me a few years ago and will forward anything gleaned from it to the TRYON Mailing List. Maybe this will give me the bug bite to get me involved!. Ciao for now, Ken

    3. Hi Cousin, seems as though there are a few of us around (Dons that is) Welcome to the Tryon Family Union! You will have heard from Pam by now on the list instructions, so why don't you give us a bit of your history and what you're using for hardware/software. We have all sorts in the group from DOS on a '286 to Dan in WinNT 4.0 on a Pentium. We have an equal variety of geneal software from FTM for DOS, to PAF 2.31 for DOS to TMG 3.0 for Windows. I assume you had heard from Richard Rundel who's using a MAC to round out the family. So, come-awn-in, the water's great. If you post to the List, all 8 or 9 of us get it and can look you up in our respective databases. You may not hear right-away from Dan (Dennis Brevik in Marlborough) as I sent him a heavy message on Saturday and he hasn't got back yet, so I suspect Suzanne has him either tilling the garden or sewing doll's clothes-Ha! 3. Well, folks, here it is! My latest attempt at tying knots. This is Anne's and Ray's family to date. The pivotal point is Lucas who turned up in the 1881 census of Crosby North in the same family as Caleb. I already had a Lucas (Lucius) in the 1828 Leeds Militia and the birth year is right on. Wes also loses him and a few other siblings. Still a lot of work to do but this gets us started and will give Dan a chance to authenticate and integrate. I have a GEDCOM in PAF 2.31, nice and simple: birthdate/place, christeningdate/place, deathdate/place, burialdate/place, marriage date/place and everything else in one note file. The GEDCOM contains: 1. The descendants of Lucas TRYON in Ontario with his ancestors and their families; 2. The descendants of William TRYON of Camden East Twp and Polly BROWN of Ernestown Twp and daughter of a UEL John BROWN; 3. The descendants of George Sidney Leamon TRYON of Niagara Falls, NY and Ontario; 4. Other TRYONs from the eastern end of Ontario from various sources. All sources for singles and those around Lucas are in their note file. Let me know if I've missed any--I know some of Caleb's kids may not have their census refs shown. I'm going to do a link like Dan's to facilitate listings. Perhaps, I could make a suggestion about maintaining the file. Until the Web site is up and we can test it's resilience <g>, I'll agree to be the link to Dan for Canadian data other than Pam's Quebec links. I'll be up to Kingston sometime this summer for a couple of weeks to continue research at the OGS library and hopefully in Brockville, Belleville and Smith's Falls, God willing! I'll send Dan my GEDCOM for archiving and anyone else whatever form/format I can muster. When I get PAF3.0, I'll transfer, setup and forward. I did, however, recreate my mail hold area, which was huge, but I have everybody's address. If I owed anybody any messages, please let me know. Vicki

    3. I took the liberty of posting this message that was Roots-L today. It's likely that most of you subscribe to that list, but - just in case.... Pam ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 28 May 1997 09:46:34 -0500 (CDT) From: phelps jay <zzphel@acc.wuacc.edu> Subject: Tryon family; KS,MO Trying to find out some information on the Tryon family for a friend I work with who does not subscribe. Wanting information on Jasper Bruce Tryon(5/19/1850-6/2/1902. Buried at Greenwood (Irving) cemetery south of Blue Rapids, Marshall County, Kansas. Jasper married Mary Clementine LaCour (2/15/1848-3/9/1930). They both came from France. The couple had 12 children before his death. After his death she married a Mr. Summerville and John Blankenship. She is buried with John Blankenship at Linn Creek, Camden County, Missouri. Also seeking any information on Adam Shaefer (8/7/1857-2/10/1893) who married Rachel Elizabeth Maneval in 1883. They had 6 children. Buried in Centralia, Nemaha County, Kansas. Any background and/or sibling information would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Paul Goebel at zzgoeb@acc.wuacc.edu Thanks so much for your help. I took the liberty of sending your message to the list, hope you don't mind. It appeared that it was only sent to me. Although I'm not used to how rootsweb headers appear. I guess we'll get used to it quick enough. With all the mailing lists down for a time, my mailbox seemed so empty....now I'm back to about 300/day...about normal (not all mine - Christian gets a lot of Star Trek "stuff"). More importantly, the "down" time should make us feel us very grateful to Rootsweb for taking on the enormous task of absorbing all the surname mailing lists free of charge....literally hundreds and hundreds of them. I will not take this priviledge for granted. There are grand hopes out there in the genealogical community for so much in the way of databases, and other info to be placed on the web. I am sure we are just seeing the beginning of what is to be the biggest resource yet in research. Bringing all the listowners together under Rootsweb is yet another way to bring us closer. Can't wait to see the future will bring! So, now where were we? Bring on the TRYON queries!! (I'm off the soapbox now - just v-e-r-y thankful that all my lists are back up again). 1. TRYON - We're back!!
    2. Pam or Chris Waugh
    3. Well, TRYON Researchers, our list is up and running once again, but our new home is now at Rootsweb! You do NOT need to resubscribe - if you get this, you are already on the list. I am sending you a copy of the "generic" rootsweb welcome message that has posting and unsub instructions, etc. - please print it out (if possible) and SAVE IT for future reference. But, welcome back, and we owe a great debt of appreciation to RootsWeb for offering new homes to ALL the old mailing lists that were once housed at Indiana University....FREE of charge. I have enclosed the directions that will go out to all new subscribers. PLEASE read these through and change addresses. Most importantly - - - REMEMBER - new postings go to: TRYON-L@rootsweb.com So send in those TRYON queries and comments, and let's get going! Pam (moodies@magicnet.net) _________________________________________________________________ Welcome to the TRYON mailing list! You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to TRYON as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to TRYON-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to TRYON-L-request@rootsweb.com. 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to TRYON-L-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to TRYON-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to TRYON-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both. For your verification, a transcript of the original subscription request is included below. And new TRYON-D subscribers recieve: Welcome to the TRYON mailing list! You are currently subscribed in "digest mode", which means that several postings made to TRYON will be consolidated together and sent to you as a single large message. The directions on how to change to mail mode (where you receive every message as a separate e-mail) are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to TRYON-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to TRYON-D-request@rootsweb.com. 3. How to change to mail mode (each posting is sent to you as a separate e-mail). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to TRYON-D-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue digest mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to TRYON-L-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving individual messages.
