    1. [TRIER-ROOTS] LISTOWNER: AOL problem with digests
    2. W. David Samuelsen
    3. Attention: This is for the users of AOL. I received this notice from another listadmin who is involved in list management. - David, listadmin Just as an item of interest -- what happens on AOL when someone receives a MIME digest is that it arrives as a single downloadable attachment with a .mim file extension. If an AOLer downloads this attachment and then clicks on FILE > OPEN to read it...AOL pops up a message saying that this is an unrecognized file type and AOL can't read it. If the AOLer persists and clicks on "try to open this file as a text file" the file WILL open and will be readable as a plain text file just as if you were reading a plain text inline digest. With a MIME digest you have to jump through a lot of hoops to do what can more easily be done in the body of an email with plain text format digests. The big problem with the MIME digests for AOlers is that 99% of AOLers won't get beyond the AOL warning that the attachment can't be read in AOL and will simply give up trying. So the bottom line is AOLers have nothing to gain by asking for MIME format digests.
