Does anyone have info about Catholic emigration from the Trier area to Syracuse, NY? Any locations/parishes in Syracuse? I have an ancestor - Catherine KISCH - who, according to her obit [Dubuque, Iowa, March 1925], was born "February 24, 1840, Trier, Germany . . . came to this country with her parents when ten years old. For two years the family lived in Syracuse [Onondaga County], New York." The family then moved to Dubuque, Iowa. Dan Daniel J. You might want to look at the USGenWeb site for Onondaga County: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyononda/ They have a lot of information, including the histories of towns, villages, and churches that describe the origins of the founders. There were definitely German groups that settled there and had their own churches. You also might try contacting the Onondaga County mailing list re: settlers from the Trier area. FWIW, the Town of Manlius, east of Syracuse in Onondaga County, had many settlers from the area around Forbach in Lorraine, including some named KIRSCH (my family). (There were other Kirsch families in the area, as well.) Although they're not that far apart, those folks identified themselves as Lothringisch, rather than Trierisch. Good luck! Kathy
