I am searching for my ancestrers from Trier. I believe that one of the "Kapfs", joined the British as a hired solder to fight in the American Revolution. His Deutsch name, when he left he left for America was "Heinrick Edvard Kapfs." When he arived in the USA, he deserted and joined an already existing Deutsch community and changed his named to "Henry Edward Cops." A map on Ancestry.com, shows the name "Henry Edward Cops" existed in the USA around the year of 1790. An information would help me greatly. Danke, Berl.
Berl checked 1790 census - No Henry but Joseph and Joshua Cops in Rockingham, NH and Solomon Cops in Stratford, NH - no ages etc - census pages for Joseph and Joshua are blurred and can't be read - the page for Solomon is very hard to read - other Cops' in following census' but saw no Henrys in the next 3.
