Hi, the county of Daun you mentioned is not the Kreis Daun in northern Rhineland-Palantinate. This area belonged to the archibishopric of Trier and was in those time 100% of all inhabitans roman catholic. There is another Daun, called Dhaun south in the Palatinate region of our county. The name is actually "Hochstetten-Dhaun" ! In the book "Die Auswanderungen aus Rheinpfalz und Saar", edited by Werner HACKER: "Werner Hacker, Auswanderungen aus Rheinpfalz und Saarland im 18. Jahrhundert, Konrad Theiss Verlag Stuttgart 1987, ISBN 3-8062-0487-X". This book contains about 10.000 names of emigrants from that area and a lot of informations about the area of Dhaun. Also, have you tried "Google"?-- I'm a regular at our FHC. Problem is: 1. I have no village identified for the birthplace - only the Kreis. 2. All the Kreis Daun records that are microfilmed are Catholic and I think the family was protestant. 3. Even then, there is a large number of parishes - too many to just randomly order films. 4. Most of the various immigration books - Burgert, Hacker - have not been microfilmed. I have checked the online indices for the Familybooks from the area. Again - nearly all seem to be Catholic. Even just checking for a similar sounding surname I just haven't had any luck. I'd hoped I'd come across a similar sounding surname - and then at least have a smaller geographical area identified. I do thank you for your response. Maybe we can get some brain storming started. Hallo Werner, Several months ago, just before you took your trip to Rome, I had asked you about the lists for St. Laurentius in Trier. You replied that the list had been made but was not yet on-line and you'd be happy to look up some names for me when you returned, if I would send the info to you at this email address. I sent the info, but you never responded, so I guess you did not receive it, which seems to happen sometimes. So this time I am making it as a reply to one of the posts you have made to the Trier mailing list, even though that was not about the same subject. I would be very happy if you are able to find anyone listed for St. Laurentius with the following surnames, with dates prior to about 1825: Alff Beck/Beek/Beeck Beuren Burlaeus Gevelsdorf Hachenburg Leveling/von Leveling Saarburg Tippel/Typpel - especially Anna, geb ca 1731 Umbscheiden The surnames Leveling/von Leveling and Saarburg are the most important, followed by Tippel/Typpel and Umbscheiden. The others are from earlier generations, so may not be there...I am not sure where they were located. If you do not find anyone by some of those names, I am already searching the other Trier and vicinity lists, but can't be sure I have found the right persons or if they are connected to mine. My research on them is just beginning. When I find their names at a particular location, then I order the films for that church/location from the LDS to see the actual records. Your lists for Trier are a wonderful way to help me do that. I will be most appreciative of anything you can find in the St. Laurentius records.
