    1. [TRIER-ROOTS] Trier as a birth place
    2. In one census record my ancestor stated he was born in Treves (or Trier). He was really born in a nearby village of Malborn, not too far from Trier. So just because an ancestor says he was born in Trier, that may not be so. We do that here in the states, too, when telling someone where we're from - especially if we're from a small town. Also, in another census for this same ancestor the census taker wrote down "Melbourne" for the place of birth..... I knew the ancestor wasn't from Australia, so I used that "Melbourne" as a clue to start looking near Trier for a similar sounding name, and found my ancestor in Malborn. Something to think about when using census information. Joanne Joanne A. Smith Mello jomello@sbcglobal.net
