I am going to sit tight until I hear from Werner. Even though the books are copywrited, perhaps the originators or owners of the books would allow this rootsweb to publish the books, if we pooled some money and purchased some books. Or if we each purchased one and then donated it to the list. Something where we could look up. And even downloaded. Especially where they couldn't make any money because they won't print more books or cd's. ( Typically, that is the reason for the copywrite, to protect their interest in the books) typically all of them would be best on CD. but that would involving copying again and margin for error goes up. Well, Werner, how does that sound? Good or not so good? How about on the new Trier site? There is a rootsweb site for a county in New York that is superb. It does have some early county records right on the sight plus early census records. Going to the library is fine if you are fairly close. Our library has really weird hours, and last time I ordered 25.00 worth of records( before Christmas) and they neglected to call me when they got it, so I just plain lost out. Besides which it is a bit of a trip. And when you get there, there is only so much your eyes can handle with the microfische. Besides, what I am waiting for is to find out, can we access those records any other way than the library? It seems a shame he went to the trouble of doing all that copying and translating so no one can access them.
