I am at an impasse with regard to my GGGrandfather, Peter DIRKES. He immigated to the US and all his siblings except one also came, over a period of 2 years or so in the 1860's. Peter was born 6 July 1842 at Bauler, Kreis Bitburg. His parents came to the US with the youngest son John but were lost at see when their ship burned (young John swam ashore). Peter's oldest brother John (called Dicka John) stayed in Bauler. I have no idea who their parents were and this is what I wish to find out. A very knowledgable man told me that the records for this family would be at Trier. I know there is only a small chapel at Bauler (appx. 1 mile from Luxembourg border). Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Side note: Peter Dirkes maried Maria RICHTER in MN. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Richter but I have no information on her siblings or where she came from in Germany. Thank you very much for all you wonderful knowledge and assistance.
