Hello readers, Bernie asked a interesting question. I looked into my database for Trier family books and found the following information. In the 1930`s a Mr. Wurringen wrote the first family books for the mosel valley and the city of Trier. These books are now at the moment the most important books after the church books. They show in sorted entries by family a-->z the most (not all !) families in the at the end of this email noted family books. Mr. Wurringen was working as a "Dechant" in the catholic region of Trier. He listed no other religious communities, not the jewish and not the protestant. The enties are not complete, what we knowe today is he had not written down what he could not read and he wrote no unknown names. At the end we now knowe that Mr. Wurringen was an important local genealogist but not correct, only 70% of all entries of Trier church books are noted in his books. Alle his books are written by handwriting in the old german script, called suetterlin. This is very hard to read for 98% of all germans today. I did need 6 monthe to read a little but now I am good, I think, in reading the old handwriting 1450-1943. My grandfather Johann Lichter, called Schmatten Hens, was a blacksmith. In his books he wrote in the 1960`s 40% of his entries in Suetterlin and his half sister Susanna Leiberts had a cook book written in the 1950->1968 in 100% old german script and very hard to read. All germans after 1945 now only the international writing, and would be very amused to see how their ancestors wrote only 2 generations ago. Back to the family books: The church books of the 2015 year old city of Trier do beginn in 1569-1571. I this the very most church books could have been saved over the 30 years war 1618-1648, the french wars 1648-1716, the both world wars and some fires. Sometimes the priests find some old books in their churches like the old Bitburg church book some years ago (it begins 1634). The church books of Trier do include some towns around like Besslich,Mertesdorf and Sirzenich. Some other villages were incorporated into the city during 1815-1969 like Biewer, Ehrang, Pfalzel, Pallien, Maar, Loewenbruecken, Fausenburg, Euren, Zewen, Monaise, Weishaus, Busental, Herresthal, Feyen, Zurlauben, Paulin or Strass Paulin, Ruwer, Irsch near Trier, the mill "Irschermuehle" near Irsch, Irschbergerhof, Mattnerhof, Olewig, Medard, Saint Matthias, Petrishof, Houses infornt of the MOSELBRUECKE, Bellevue, Schneidershof, Weisshaus, Kockelsberg, Sievenicherhof, Saint Barbara, Kuerenz, Avelertal, Forsthaus at the hill of Grueneberg, Nell`s parc, Tabaksmuehle (tabaccomill), Wasserstation (waterstation), Gruenebberg, Heiligkreuz, Oberbrubach, Bleiche Olewig, Tiergarten near Trier, Herrenbruennchen, Estricherhof, Forsthaus Kobenbach, Mariahof, Balduinshaeuschen, Catharinenhof, Markusberg, Heidenberg (not Heidenburg), Oberkirch near Zewen, Filsch, Kernscheid, Tarforst, Eitelsbach. I think this is all, but I am not 100% shure, only 95%. These parts of the city of Trier and Trier itself often changed the place of parish, some never changed. It is hard to find in all of the original church books alle the entries, because the entries for this city are about 500.000 or more for the years 1569-1815. Trier had some hospitals and military places, was and is a centrum for the hole region including east Luxembourg. A lot of couples were married in the dome of Saint Peter since the roman periode 450-->1999. I have some ancestors too, whose marriage was in Trier but not in the town where they lived after. I will now list the books of Mr. Wurringen, knowing in this region by genealogist as their father of genealogists and called only "Dechant Wurringen": Trier, parish of Our lovely women "Liebfrauen": 1798-1884 Trier-Ruwer 1680-1854 Trier, parish of Saint Antonius 1570-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Antonius 1798-1860 Trier, parish of Saint Gangolf 1733-1905 Trier, parish of Saint Gangolf 1570-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Gervasius 1638-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Gervasius 1810-1897 Trier, parish of Saint Laurentius 1798-1884 Trier, parish of Saint Laurentius 1570-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Matthias 1798-1902 Trier, parish of Saint Medard 1638-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Paulin (A WOUNDERFULL PAINTED CHURCH) 1800-1896 Trier, parish of Saint Paulus 1798-1893 Trier, parish of Saint Paulus 1570-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Walburga 1638-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Walburgis 1748-1798 Mertesdorf is in the parish of Saint Paulin Konz-Merzlich is in the parish of Trier-Palastpfarrei and Saint Mathias Trierweiler-Sirzenich is in the parish of Saint Michael Trier-Kuerenz is in the parish of Saint Paulin Trier-Maar is in the parish of Saint Paulin ---- After Mr. Wurringen the writing and the corrections of Trier church books stopped untill the 1980`s. After the war the people had other more importand things to do. Here are the lists of the church books from 1980-->1998. I can not write down the running project, I do not have complete infos for it. Trier-Biewer, a printed book of our list-member Richard Schaffner 1600-1880 Trier-Ehrang (including Pfalzel), a printed book of Mt.Schaffner 1600-1880 Trier-Euren, a printed book from Hans Peter Bungert 1600-1798 but I think there is a new one untill 1900 Trier-Irsch, a printed book from Heinrich Wagner 1673-1900 Trier-Pallien, a printed book (including Besslich) of Mr.Wagner 1731-1804 Trier, parish of Saint Helena, a printed book of Mr. Bungert 1600-1798 Trier, parish of Saint Michael, a printed book of Mr. Wagner 1638-1803 Trier-Zewen (with Oberkirch and Heidenberg), a printed book of Mrs. Lika Hellwig 1695-1900 Alle these books of Mr. Wurringen are not printed and they are perhaps in the microfilms of Salt Lake City and you can see them when visiting Trier in the central city library, street of Weberbach. There you can make copies, too. In the archive of the catholic church of bishop in Trier are the books of Mr. Wurringen in the original, the original church books and a lot of detailed information about the several parishes and other new parishes, grownded after 1900. They can not help you in searching via e-mail or by letter. They do not have working people for this, sorry. For a little search (perhaps one name) they do help, but not a complete genealogy. There are several special genealogics in this region of Trier who do this. They do mostly knowe if there are ofter archive materials in this area like old tax lists. But this is much to complicate to write this down in this letter. Perhaps we can start this with other members of this list. I can not do this alone, because I am working in another job you knowe. When the Trier family book project will have ended, there will be about 30 new volumes of family books only abou Trier. I have read that the university of Trier is also very interesd in this project. This was never done before in such a complete work like they do it now, And all the people which are writing and typing down the books entries are VOLUNTEERS. !!!! Clap your hand for this working ants. sincerely and best wishes to all your volunteer Werner LICHTER Ok, this is all I knowe for today. I hope this will help some people of this list ########################################################################## Bernie schrieb: > > Yesterday I sent the following message "Does anyone know if there are any > church books for the various churches in Trier."
