Russell Theis@CHEDSZURICH 12.02.99 15:24 Hi List, I have the book "Emigration to the Americas from the Bittburg Region in the 19th Century" by Josef Mergen and am willing to try doing lookups on a volunteer basis. The Bittburg book is a compilation of Exit-Visa applications from citizens wanting to emigrate, including such information as: Applicant's name and DOB Where resident Family members included, with DOB and names of children Reason for wanting to emigrate Application date Assets (for tax purposes) Decision Bittburg is about 30 Kms north of Trier, but the area Mergen included was wide, running up against the Lux border. There are about 14 other volumes out there from Mergen and others, from areas like Prüm, Trier, Trier-City, Wittlich, Saarland, Saarburg, Bernkastel, Merzig, Ottweiler, Saarbrücken, Saarlouis, St.Wendel. Would be interesting to find out if anyone else having these books would do lookups....... I leave it to David Samuelson, the Listowner, to stipulate whether the lookup-results should go on the list or be answered directly to the "askee". Good hunting, Russ Theis
