A request for an assist from the list please. I am currently reading an LDS film of a German Familienbuch, circa 1722 to 1800 from Kr. Bitburg, Regbez Trier. Several of the entries in the Familienbuch listings read as follows: (the first name being the husband, the second being the wife; oo = married); BESENIUS Leonhard, oo Dymer vulgo Schomptges; DYMER cond. Schontges oo Schomtges Maria; Thomas DIMER cond Schontger Joh., oo Neu cond Goeders Maria; DYMER Vulgo Schomptges, Daniel oo Lentzen cond. Hartz Maria Katherina; There are also DYMERS without the vulgo/cond who oo females without the vulgo/cond. Thode's says that cond. is the abbreviation for the Latin " also know as" or "occupation" or "station in life"; and that vulgo (Latin) for "commonly known as"; "in the vernacular"; "called"; however he shows no listing for Schomptges, Schomtges, Schontger, Schontges as an occupation. There are no listings for Schomptges etc as family names in the Familienbuch. The vulgo/cond. notation isn't used with other families in the Familienbuch. I will be grateful for any insight or explanation about this kind of listing. Thanks for your help, Patt Gaetani
