Hello I am wondering how to find information re: my ancestor who's name was Bernard Theobald he attended the university of Trier although I'm the family was from Metz France. I remember my Mother telling me that my grandfather fled to america with nothing but the clothes on his back . when due to political upheaval the Germans overtook the portion of France that they lived in and that they were forced to learn German and that even their names were changed (I presume to theobald) I think my Mother must have been confused because it is known that my ancestor was married and came to america with his wife and 7 children . My mother also stated they were born in Trier France and I don't think that is possible either since Trier is in Germany and it is known now that he attended the university there. Can anyone lead me in the right direction for locating his ancestors Patricia Perkins at caviness@abts.net
