My grandfather, Charles Kuhn, was born in or near Zweibrucken in 1863 or1865. His father was Jacob and the family owned a general store that sent wagons with merchandise throughout the countryside. Charles had a sister Clara who married a man in the Belgium counselar service, They were assigned to Detroit Michigan. Charles's mother died young and Jacob remarried. At eighteen Charles went to Clara in Belgium and then to America. He married Amelia ( Emily ) Krupske about 1888,Jacob had an uncle Adam, a soldier in the 1848 revolution. He escaped Rastatt fort and joined the french foreign legion. There were relatives living just outside Rastatt.
