    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Kieffer memoirs from Luxembourg to Philly. Several surnames mentioned.
    2. I have had the pleasure to see a copy of my great great grandfather Lorenzo Mathias Kieffer's memoirs. I thought there just might be someone out there that would be interested in some of what he wrote. I realize spelling , punctuation and place spellings are not going to be correct for I am copying what he wrote and how it appears to me. Lynn Philadelphia June 5th 1866 Married by the Rev. The later name received at my confirmation at St. Peters Church in the city of Philadelphia U.S.A. in 1887 by Bishop John Nepomach Neumann (for you that don't know this is now St. John Neumann.-- Lynn) Son of Mathias and Magdelena Kieffer. Was born on June the 11th 1838 in Schnebsange, Commune de Wellenstein, Kanton Remmcih, Grand Duche de Luxembourg. Was baptized in the Catholic Chuch in Schnebsange and named Mathias. 1845 Schooled in Schnebsange. Remershcn and Remich to be educated witha view of receiving Holy Orders. 1853 Emigrated with Father, Brothers and Sisters to the United States of America, from Havre landed in New York Feb. 3 1854 after a terrible voyage on the sea of seventy (or 75) days. 1854 The family consisted of Mathias Kieffer Pere (father), Magdalena Kieffer, Nicolas Kieffer, Margaretha Kieffer, John Kieffer and myself Lorenzo M. Kieffer as before stated baptized Mathias. With us was our Aunt , sister of our father, a maiden lady, Susanna Kieffer, also Franz Dock of P..L Prussia, intended husband of Magdelena Kieffer, afterward married. After all this Lorenzo goes into where they lived, what he did and his time in the Civil War, he enlisted in Kansas. I do not know if his Aunt Susanna ever married here in the states but his sister Margaretha married someone with the last name of Fastnacht and as stated Magdelena married Franz Dock. I also know that John Kieffer married Caroline Wust. The Kieffer family was extremely active in St. Peter's on Fifth. They had a furniture business on Girard and some of John's children became funeral directors in that area.
