    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Dahm - Schuh - Reinert - Kohn connections
    2. Well, Ms. Schuh's response makes it fairly clear there is little chance of a DAHM connection to my family. And, Ms. Dranicz, I think there is little chance of a REINERT connection to your family from mine. First, where is Brotdorf? It is not listed in a modern map, and I have lost my connection to a gazetteer that I rely on for mid-19th C Germany. Second, where is the Niles you refer to? Niles OH, Niles MI, Niles WI are several possibilities. My REINERT family emigrated from Deutschland, Rheinland-Pfalz, Kreis Trier, Igel (upstream from Trier on the Mosel, about 9 km) in 1867, apparently via Le Havre to New York, and quickly on to Chicago, then residing in Caledonia MN from 1867 to 1872. The immigrant patriarch died there in March 1871, and his widow joined a caravan of German-Luxembourgois who sought better fortunes in Tipton KS. The five children married others of the same background: Susanna m. Johann Mathias KOHN of Wasserliesch R-P DEU, Nicholas m. Maria SIMEON of St. Donatus IA (parents from LUX), Peter m. Catherine SCHWINDEN of Caledonia MN, Maria m. Michael GILLEN of DEU R-P, Cruchten, and Gertrude m. Stephen SCHANDELER of Pratz or "Medersiagh" LUX.
