Hi Jan and List: I have been researching the Backes family from Bliesen and Güdesweiler in Saarland. I have found many Backes family members back to about 1690. They first came to Buffalo, NY first. The reason your message caught my interest is that you mention PEORIA, ILL. A Great Aunt of mine claims to have been to a Backes family wedding around 1930 in the Peoria area. I have a Joseph BACKES but he died in the 1920's in West Seneca, NY. I would love to exchange information with you if this rings a bell.
