I recently received a copy of a birth record for my great-great grandfather, Johann KRECHAN, born in the town of Numborn (near Heusweiler). The date of birth given is: "the twenty-fifty day of the month of messidor in the eleventh year of the French Republic." Can anyone tell me what this date is or how to find out? On his tombstone in Butler County, PA, it gives only the year of his birth as 1801 - is 1801 the eleventh year of the French Republic and what is the month of messidor? Thank you for any information.
