    3. Hello List, My name is Jan Kelley and the family line that I am researching is "BACKES", * Fredrick Wilhelm Backes, his parents and brothers Joseph, Matthew, John and Nicholas came to America when Fredrick was 5 (about 1846) * Fredrick and family came from Hasborn, Germany. ( I have found two Hasborn, Germany. One in Rineland and one in Saarland. A daughter of Fredrick stated on a tape recording that father came from Saarland. Therefore, I believe this is Hasborn-Dautweiler, Saarland, Germany north of Saarbrucken, Germany) I believe my relative to be the Joseph Backes mention in this short paragraph on my family history. I know nothing about them prior to living in Peoria, Illinois after coming to the U.S.. I am looking for any possible connections to this Joseph Backes and his family that is mentioned in the paragraph above. If anyone can help me make a connection in anyway, to my family in Germany, I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart for any time and trouble you may go through on my behalf. Your friend in genealogy, Jan Kelley [email protected] May God Bless you, Direct you and Protect you, in everything you say and do! Communicate, with those you love. Appreciate them while you have them. Validate your love, before they are gone. 3. Hi Jan This won't help you much, but in another village of Saarland I have found a Johann Backes, born 18th November 1778 in Hüttersdorf and deceased on 30th may 1802 in Dieffeln, son of Johann Backes and Catharina Manuel. He married a cousin of mine, Maria Schorn but I have found only one daughter from this mariage : Anna Maria Backes born on 21st Dezember 1800 in Nalbach, no other informations on her. Hope that some day you'll find a use for this information... 3. Jan, I too have Backes in my line and yes they are from Germany as well. My family names are Schmitt and Seberger. Several of the Seberger's (also spelled Sehberger and Seeberger married Backes) there are also Backes that married into the Muller family name. I have not done alot of research on the Backes but do know that some settled in Lake County, Indiana. In particular, Catharina Seberger married a Mathias Backes(his dates I do not have at this time). They were married in Germany and had four children, Anna Maria, Peter, Margaret, and Helen, all of them emigrated to the US at an unknown date. Anna Maria Backes married Nicholas Neudorf and they had 12 children:Nicholas, Katherine, Mathias, Peter, Joseph, William, Marie, Susanna, Andrew, Ann Odilla, Clara and John Anthony. Unfortunatly I have not touched these folks yet so I can not give you dates. I did have contact with a woman from Germany who gave me the following web site for German families. http://db.genealogy.net/ofb/hochwald/hochwaldlist.htm? There are several Backes in this. I have noted that the dates and names may not always be given, don't let this deter you as I have found many ancestors in this list, it just seems that it is incomplete. Also she gave me a name of a book that has thousands of records, but I do not know how to get copies of it or if I would have to ask for specific records. The name of the books is" The Inhabitants of Wadrill and Sitzerath Before 1850" by Hans Peter Klauk, Saarlouis. Published by Gehweiler and Reidelbach (1800-1850). The book only goes up to 1850. This is an old church book. The old church book of Wadrill and Wadern is in the archives of the diocese Trier. In the family album Südlicher Hochwald (Southern Timber Forest) online you can find all further information about the families. Source listing on the German side. Here is the homepage for Wadern. http://www.wadern.de/geschablauf.htm Perhaps the local administration can help you if you need, yet the site is in german, maybe you speak it better than I. If you have questions let me know, I will try to answer them but my information is limited. Best Regards, Matt Halton
