Can anyone tell me whether Jois and/or Joes is an abbreviation for Joannes? Sometimes, but not always there is a line over the oi/oe. Jane
Please post any answers to the list. I would be interested in hearing them as well. I guess my question isn't whether they are abbreviations for Johannes but rather what are the circumstances for using the different abbreviations? When is Jois used? When is Joes used?
