I am seeking information on a distant relative from Trier who left Trier for Johannesburg, South Africa rather suddenly after shooting his commanding officer to death. He was born in 1854 so time frame is most likely 1874+. I would think that this event would have been reported in the local papers. I also had heard that most of of the Prussian Army records had been destroyed in the wars. If someone has any ideas on how I may research this tragic event I would appreciate suggestions.
