My grandfather, Jacob Herres, was born in Detzem, Rheinland on Aug. 6, 1857, son of Jacobum and Irmina Reis Herres. Christened the next day in Detzem, he was a Catholic, He came to America when he was 17 years old (1874-75). His parents, Jacobum and Irmina were married in Detzem on February 15, 1841. Also, does anyone know the most probable route and port of embarcation that my grandfather would have used from Detzem/Trier to New York City in 1874-75?
