Marilyn, The name of the cemetery is "Staedtischer Friedhof" (municipal cemetery). We Trierers just call it "Hauptfriedhof" (main cemetery). It is by far the biggest cem. in Trier. The cem. itself is in a street called "Hospitalsmuehle". The adress of its administration is another: Stadtverwaltung Trier Gruenflaechenamt Gaertnerstrasse 62 54292 Trier/Germany e-mail: grünflä[email protected] (with dots on "u" and the first "a"!) or visit www.trier.de They are responsible for all municipal cemeteries. But I don`t think that someone is buried under the memorial. It was erected in 1842 (abt. 30 years after the napoleonic wars) to honour the men who fought for the french. It was not errected by the prussian govt., but by veterans. I have never seen it with my own eyes, someone told me about and I read about it in the chronicle of our city.
