History of Orscholz: ...Here is still further extracts/exerpts from the diocese archives of the Archbishopric. ...According to the report of the Bishopric Chronicle of Trier (Gesta Treverorum), King Ludwig IV (died 911); gave/donated to the Archbishop of Trier, Radbod, the castles Sierck and Orkesvels with the villages pertaining to them. ...Sierck today is in France and is situated about 8 km from Borg. Orkesvels is today called Orscholz, is situated in Germany about 6 km from Borg. The castle of Sierck must have been an imposing and vast building. The ruins are still there and can visited. There is more left from castle of Orkesvels. ...A man named Arnold de Orkesvels appears in 1167 in a document of the Archbishop of Trier, Hillin. The Chapel of Orscholz, named in 1569 as a subsidiary/branch chapel of Tunsdorf, was situated on the path up to the castle and was occupied by a priest in 1341. This condition/state of things is still mentioned/testified by the Visitaion report of 1743 with the mention of a Vicar residing in Orscholz. The inhabitants of the village were only obligated at the highest holidays/ and celebrations to attend the parish church (in Tunsdorf). They also received there the Easter Communion. The chapel in Orscholz had a clear precedence over the other subsidiary chapels of the parish, who had no right to services. This precedence/priority is related/connected to the castle. ...With the new organization of the parishes in French times (1803), Orscholz became an independent parish without subsidiaries. ...The today's church is under the patronage of Nikolaus.
