Marge, Just to confuse the issue. The area near Saarbruecken was called The Pfalz (Palatines in English) or Rheinland-Pfalz, a principality owned by Bavaria. The records from this area are clearly identified as from Bavaria. See the German Genealogy webpage - http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/RHE-PFA/rhein-p.html At 06:00 PM 3/31/2006, you wrote: >From: "Marge dellwo" <Margedellwo@charter.net> >To: TRIER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Schlink > >Ah, John many thank you's. Louise, the second is Klüsserath, the first could be the Gaymühle in the Eifel. "ay" is pronounced the same way as "ey" or "ei" or "ai". It is a mill that has its name from the Gaybach and belongs to the small village Berscheid Bitburg-Prüm, postal code 54673. You'll find it on the map a few miles east of the Our River (D-L border) between the villages Berscheid and Herbstmühle, follow the small Kreisstraße 51 (K 51) between these villages, then you won't miss. The next bigger towns are Vianden and Neuerburg. You can see Berscheid and Gaymühle on the map behind the following link: http://tinyurl.com/jwpw8 . Ah, John many thank you's. I must have midunderstoon you. About Osweiler. Got too many things going at one time. And yes I knew the surname didn't come from Ferschweiler, just our family. Thank you very much for the information about Saarbruecken. Do you think the families we have found in the United States from Bavaria, initially immigrated from the root area or Saarbruecken area to Bavaria? Some area's of Bavaria and also the Hesse area are next to it, are they not? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Schlink John" <schlinkj@pt.lu> To: "'Marge dellwo'" <Margedellwo@charter.net> Sent: Friday, March 31, 2006 1:32 AM Subject: RE: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Schlink > Well Marge you are not completely correct. > The surname is not coming from Ferschweiler, it has changed to Schlink > coming from Schlincker,Schlinck, Schlinker, Schlink all have the same name > roots. > More probably coming or migrating from out of the region's Saarbruecken, > Metz, Thionville which forms more less a triangle of about 40 miles side > lengths approx. > The family never has been those times in Osweiler. I have a copy of German map with a town called Klusserath. I don't know the date of the map. Klusserath is on the Mosel river NE of Trier. I hope that is helpful. I am back on after a while gone, our Dellwo roots are still in the Hunsrueck area, and I am always looking for real live people that are in the area and have somewhat of a history of their family. The surname Schlink came from Ferschweiler, North and West of Trier, then in Luxenbourgh, but now in Germany. However the family had come 2 generations earlier from Osweiler, which I believe is in the Trier parish. Correct me if I am wrong. Does anyone have familiarity with the name Schlink or Schlinker? Names in the documents from Ferschweiler are many small villages, most within a radius of 3-10 miles, of which Trier is a part of. I am still a novice at research in the Schlink family but probably advanced in the Dellwo family. Looking for connections there and also Belgian connections Thank You, marge researching from area: Schlink, Simon, Bercheid, Roth, Dellwo, Sossong, Mathieu, Driessler, Dupre
A really good idea is to look at a online phone book bor the name Hazencamp, and see if you can find those names in or near that area. Print out a rathar detailed map so you have all the nearby villages. Then start corresponding. Maybe do a letter that will work for all and send to more than one person. That way you will find a chance of knowing someone. They could help with the driving arrangements, hotels, etc. and usually most gracious about personal tours. hope this helps. I recieved nothing but graciousness when I was in the area in 2001. Wish I could recipocate. marge ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Davis" <edavis@advertisnet.com> To: <TRIER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 29, 2006 9:28 PM Subject: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Hasencamp > Hello, > I am researching William August Hazencamp from Volmarstein, Germany. Hello, I am researching William August Hazencamp from Volmarstein, Germany. He was born about 1876 and he came with his mother and 2 sisters to America in 1887. His father William Hazencamp came to America 6 months before. We are wanting to take a trip to Witten & Volmarstein Germany this summer. Can anyone advise me about tours of this area. We do not speak German and didn't know if we could find our way around, while speaking English. Thank you! Elizabeth Davis

Dcolores Reinartz Frank Do you have any idea of where in the Eifel they originated? Do you have any idea when they were born or emigrated? Do you have any idea whether they were married in Germany or America, and if in Germany, their spouses' names? More information would help us with your query. kql

I've diligently hunted around the web and can't find a map I'm looking for. I'd like a map delineating the boundaries of Landkreis Trier and Landkreis Saarburg before they were joined in 1969 into Kreis Trier-Saarburg. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Kathy
The postings re: Zerf book are interesting. The information I received was via e-mail and not by a CD from Mr. Schmidt. I was not aware he was marketing them. What an education we received from each other! Judith
> As malicious statements not backed by evidence that are promulgated > in the public sphere constitute libel, I have not duplicated the > original posting. Not to be nit picky, but in general a statement has to be false in order for it to be libel and/or slander. Ms Cerewich (sic?) does have evidence to support her statements, therefore they do NOT constitute libel. Wikipedia shows (in my humble opinion) a rather good explanation of the subject. Several years ago, I too received e-mails from Mr Schmitt offering the sale of copies of church records for $125 per CD, and besides the price of the disks being rather excessive, I too had wondered how he was able to obtain this information. Joe
Sorry, but the dear Mr. Thomas Schmitt wrote to me offering to sell me several Familienbuchs which he authored. Unfortunately for him, I knew two of the authors and let them know he was doing this. They in turn got together in Germany and contacted the Archives which resulted in Mr. Schmitt being fired. Again - sorry, but I cannot be sued for libel when what I state is truth. You may check the Archives in Trier to see if he is still employed. The man is a thief. He may have done some minor editing on behalf of the Archives, but he was not the author and had NO RIGHT to steal the data and sell it as his own for his own profit. On the website of the Westdeutsche Gesellschaft für Familienkunde-Bezirksgruppe Trier, Thomas Schmitt is listed as the author of numerous Familienbücher, including the one for Zerf referred to by a previous poster. For the Zerf Familienbuch, the WGfF website lists the following authors: "Autor: Franziska Kandel, Heinrich Wagner & Thomas J. Schmitt" See: http://www.genealogienetz.de/vereine/wgff/trier/ Apparently the WGfF thinks he is the author of at least some Familienbücher. It is always possible that someone may be the genuine author of many works, yet still claim authorship of other works he is not responsible for. "Caution" is the word for the day. Everyone, Please know that Thomas Schmitt is NOT an author of ANY Familienbuch and works from him were stolen from the Archives in Trier. Mr. Schmitt used to work at the Archives but no longer is employed - he was fired for selling another author's work as his own. Please know if you buy any Familienbuch from Mr. Thomas Schmitt that you are helping him commit a fraud. To my mind, this is NOT helping the compiler/author who spent thousands of hours transcribing church records and entering them into a data base. Mr. Schmitt is nothing but a thief.
