He could be connected with the Gengler family in Wormeldange Lux. line. Any information or guidance is greatly appreciated. June Gangler Colling

    1. Klasges/Klaseus from Nusbaum Trier
    2. We have a Klasges family, supposedly from Nusbaum.  One brother,  Jacob Klasges, came abt 1851, first to Mass then later relocated to Minn to join his father and rest of family in MN. This brother is supposed to have complted military service before coming to the US Jacob Klasges and family arrived in New York on the Ship Constitution in 1857 Jacob Klaesges 48 Angela 48 (maiden name Hoffman) Anna 23 (married a WIlliam Arnsdorff in St Paul MN) Michel 21 (married Dorothea Duemeland) Catherine 17 Michael Klasges/Klaseus/Klassus filed citizenship papers in MN 6 May 1857 They lived in Le Sueur Co, MN. Michael served in the Minnesota Mounted rangers during the Civil War and his widow drew a pension based on that service. Current spelling is Klaseus (pronounced Clay sees)...spelling on original documents by both brothers is Klasges. Can anyone give me guidence on what church records are readily available for Nusbaum, Trier in the early 1800's?

    3. Hi Marge: I think your Eiden family may somehow connect with my Schmitt/Schmidt family. My family was Mathias Schmidt (aka Schmitt in Malborn Germany parish records) and wife Helena Barten and several children who were in Fond Du Lac County, Wisconsin in 1847. Some of the Schmitt kids (aka Schmidt and Smith) came to California and I believe there was a guy name Eiden who worked on one of their ranches here in California. I had always thought there was some kind of family or hometown connection for this Eiden guy & my Smith family. It will take me some time to find that California Eiden information and I'm not sure I can do it today. I see you have a Mathias and Catharina Schmidt family Do you know where they lived after arriving in America? I'm very interested in the Eiden family, too. Thanks. 3. Thanks again Jake. All the names were right and matched in family that lived in Sharon, Portage, but none of the ages were right. They were pretty far off, so would be a stretch to say they matched. If any of you know of any families that lived in Wisconsin by that surname I would like to contact them. I am trying to match the family in the ship records. Also a little type Nicholaus Eiden,3, was traveling with the Mathias and Catharina Schmidt family. Same ship. So could have been a neice or nephew or a grandchild.

    3. Thanks everyone. the census records help. I had the immigration ship records from the president schmit. They were with my Dellwo ( Delvaux) family from Reinsfeld ( and Damflos) and were really good friends. Just don't know if they parted ways when our Peter came to MN instead of Chicago, or if that family ended up coming here to MN or went on to Wisconsin as planned. I should have explained what I was after. I will print out everything and compare and see what I have. Looks like you got that information off the web: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kmiller/johnhoffman.htm Gentingen was once in Luxembourg, but is now in Germany, right on the border with Luxembourg. Sorry, don't know how to get information from there. The author of the website above states he got information from the Luxembourg Archives. You might want to query him further about his sources.
