    3. I tried looking for the name Gorges or Georges in the Naturalization Index of Calumet County Wisconsin which was a project in the Wis. State Genealogical Society Newsletter some years ago. I had no luck. But it occurred to me that there might be other people on the Trier Roots list who would like me to do lookups in Calumet County. I would be happy to. The first papers filed show the date (month and year) of immigration and the country of origin. If the person was naturalized later, that date is also listed. The actual records are located at the Area Research Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin and can be purchased for a reasonable fee. 3. Ok, got some more questions. I found the family 1870. I also found immigration papers aboard the Russian ship Energie, out of Antwerp on the 4 June 1867. They were marked bound for michigan, but the next family was marked going to Wisconsin. I also found them in the 1880 Census, Anna was gone, presumably dead. The kids, Katie M 17 Lizzie M 16 Joseph 14 and John 11, only child born in Wisconsin. I think this was the census they were now marked born in Russia. You know how that one goes! Can find John maybe in 1900 census married and moved, but not sure it is him. Living in Sheboygan, John 36, Mary 26 and Mary 2. Can't find the others. I found a Jhn born is Wi, in 192o, but wrong age and wife and kids. I know all that could have changed, but not the age. So what happened to them? So my question is, do you have the name of the person that was in contact and the years they were corresponding? I could probably go through an address list. Especially if I knew the decendents were still in Wisconsin. Let me know. marge ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerome A. 3. Hello to all , thank you for your great support. Giving you the background story of this search might help for a further result. Soon after WW II an American soldier showed up at the Gorges family here and introduced himself as a descendant of Matthias Gorges. Mail -contact was kept for a couple of years but then it broke off again. Now 50 years later the present generation is trying to find the American cousins again. [As often, it is not my own family I am searching but a support I try to give to somebody else in my parish] As Matthias Georges (with that spelling) settled in Chilton , Calumet, (1880 census), it might be an idea to search him there. I have already checked the Calumet website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~calumet/calumt.htm with no result. Another info I have, checking the 1880 census for Chilton I found Peter Koster with his wife Catharina and a son Joseph. Peter Koster and Catharine were Matthias Gorges parents-in-law. Only from the census I found out that they had emigrated, too. So perhaps with your help overthere it might be possible to catch the Gorges again. thank you and sincere regards, Ursula mailto: ursula<at>ursula-buchholz.com http://www.ursula-buchholz.com

    1. Re: [TRIER-ROOTS] Greenfield
    2. I am referring to the name Greenfield, Milwaukee County Wisconsin. I found a web site last night that had Albany County New York history on it, so may have found part of my answers. I did not know there also was a Greenfield, Wisconsin, and in Albany County, no less. there were a great many of them. Our family had 18 children, wives were 3, 2 of them sisters. My ansester was in the middle of the second family. Both families had numberous immigrants to Wisconsin. My problem was we had one surname for our immigrant gr gr grandmother, Julia Minerva Draper, married to Samuel C Greenfield, and her birth date is 4 May 1817, born Day, Saratoga, New York. The lived in Hancock, Waushara County Wisconsin. Another surname for Julia (Lawrence), shows up on her marraige in Fulton County New York. I finally f ound the web site containing the marraige, and I will go from there. I am still lacking information for some of the girls of Sam's and Julia's ( from Wisconsin) But we have completed about 6 children. 3. This has nothing to do with Trier Roots, but so many of you are from the area both my other grandparents came from. Do any of you belong to a list from that area of Wisconsin? I could use some help. Can any of you think of legal documents that might exist that would have full names on them? I think I have a gr grandmother with more than one surname before marraige. Thanks, marge
