Hellingen in Luxembourg would not be on Tom Pick's website, as he is listing records from the Eifel region of the District of Pitburg-Pruem, north of Trier in Germany. Some of that area was formerly Luxembourg, but not all. Towns in present day Luxembourg are not in Tom's database. Jim, I am also searching the Wagener family from Luxembourg. I believe that Hellingen is very close to Berdorf and maybe we have a connection. I have a Peter Wagener who was married to Antoinette Lehnen. Please contact me. Ettelbruck parish records list the marriage of my ancestor Henricus WAGENER to Anna Margaretha WEYLAND VULGO SCHANNEN on 3 Feb 1755. Henricus is listed as the son of Bartholomaeus WAGENER and Anna KLEIN of "Hellingen." Is "Hellingen" the same as Hellange, Luxembourg? Here is the information I have found on this family who eventually came to Stearns and Benton Counties in central Minnesota: Kolbert/Kolbet, Catherine Lichter b. 31 May, 1830 at Gilzem/Bitburg, Dist. of Trier, Germany; m. Anton Kolbert who was born 1 Nov. 1825 in Holstum/Bitburg, Dist. of Trier, Germany. He emigrated with his family to the USA in Oct. 1866 and they settled in Iowa; Anton probably died while in Iowa. Catherine d. probably in Mayhew Lake, Benton County, Minn., as she was living with her daughter Susan Goedert's family in 1910. Catherine was already 79 years of age. Catherine was living in Black Hawk County, Iowa in 1880. She was a widow. Living with her were her children: Leonard, Susan, and Katherine. Children of Anton Kolbert and Catherine Lichter: 1. Kolbert, Catherine b. 4 Oct. 1861 in Holsthum/Bitburg, Dist. of Trier, Germany; m. Bernard Martini and lived in Benton County, Minnesota; she d. 18 June 1951. Bernard Martini b. 31 March 1862; d. 4 March 1925; both are buried at Annunciation Catholic Cemetery in Mayhew Lake, Minnesota. 2. Kolbert, Leonard b. about 1863 in Holsthum/Bitburg, Dist. of Trier, Germany; He emigrated separately from his family, coming to the USA in 1877 from Mettendorf, Germany; he became a schoolteacher and taught at Mayhew Lake Twsp, Benton County, Minn. in 1910: In 1920 he was a schoolteacher in Luxemburg Twsp, Stearns County, Minn.; In 1930 he was retired and living with his sister, Catherine Martini, in Graham Twsp, Benton County, Minn. Leonard Kolbet apparently never married. 3. Kolbert, Susan b. 13 June 1866 in Holsthum, Germany; Goedert family history claims Susan was born in Luxembourg; see: John P. Goedert 4. Kolbert, Catharine (II) b. 13 June 1866 in Holstum, Germany; lived in Iowa in 1880; unsure whether she ever lived in Minnesota. [Note: this family had four other children who emigrated to America: Margaretha, b. 11 Nov. 1853; Stephan, b. 23 April 1858; Anna, b. 29 Sept. 1859; and Bernard, b. 8 June 1863. Also on this journey was Anton Kolbert's single sister, Margaretha Kolbert, b. 5 Feb. 1815.] Sources: 1. 1880 US Census, Iowa, Black Hawk County, Fox Twsp, Fam. 74, p 9. 2. 1900 US Census, Minnesota, Benton County, Graham Twsp, Fam. 58, p 3 [John P. Hi again! Yes, I can see now that you are the one I wrote to, as I still have the copy of your email "EWhite". I have continued to work on the Luxembourgers. I haven't included the Kolbet/Kolbert family in the group, although I do have two other families from Holstum in the listing, so maybe I should add them also. It's all reather humorous as one of my own lines goes back to Holstum in the mid to late 1700's. It's really a very small village. Gretchen ----- Original Message ----- From: "E. Hello Gretchen, You and I corresponded a few years back, and you gave me some info relating to this family. Thanks!! These KOLBET people are my husband's line, and I believe the Stearns /Benton co. MN family is pretty well covered. I am still researching the family in Iowa, there are still KOLBET families there and also NebraskA, I believe some also went to Washington state and nearby states. The GOEDERT family which also came from Trier/Luxumbourg, Germany is the family I am attempting to trace more closely now. I also found that there was a connection to the Diederich surname in Iowa anyway. thanks, Ellen ----- Original Message ----- From: "gretll" <gretll@clearwire.net> To: <trier-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2006 1:35 PM Subject: Re: [TRIER-ROOTS] Kolbert/Kolbet genealogy > Hello: > > I came across this name while researching the Luxembourg community in > Stearns County and Benton County, Minnesota. > > Susanne Kolbet/Kolbert married John P. Hello: I came across this name while researching the Luxembourg community in Stearns County and Benton County, Minnesota. Susanne Kolbet/Kolbert married John P. Goedert. Susanne was born in Holsthum, Germany. She and her parents apparently lived for awhile in Iowa and later came north to central Minnesota. Her mother's name was Catherine. The father's name was Anton, apparently a younger brother to a Nicholas Kolbet who settled in Iowa. Susanne Kolbet Goedert had a brother who was a schoolteacher at St. Nicholas, Minnesota and also in Benton County. I am trying to find my notes on them. Most of the information I found on Ancestry.com in the census records. The family is listed in Joseph Mergen's manuscript on Emigration out of the District of Trier in the 1900's. Hi Mary, I don't recognize any of those names, but I'm keeping a file in case - miracle of miracles - we can hook up later. Wouldn't that be nice to find the whole family? Ruth

I understand that my Schilling and Gotto relatives emigrated to the U.S. from Trier, Prussia, Germany in the 1850's or 60's. I do not know which city they called home, but my great grandmother evidently spoke often of the Black Forest. There are many Schilling families who emigrated to Wisconsin, but my relatives settled in Dubuque, County, IA. The Schilling's evidently spent some time in JoDavies county, IL. before moving across the Mississippi to the Holy Cross- Bankston area of Dubuque county. hcremer5@mchsi.com
Hi Pamela, by the way... Molitor is realy common. It´s the latin translation (by local priests) from Mueller (english Miller). The city of Hoven in SD was founded by the family Hoven, born in Kyllburg north of Trier. The first wife died in WI before the family moved west. Her name was Mueller... I have found several individuals from Trier region the moved to Hoven: Mueller, Erschens, Hoven The Hovens lived in Philippsweiler and emigrated in 1846/1847 (to WI), The Mueller was from the Zahnen mill close to Kyllburg, The Erschens were from Kell south of Trier. And, perhaps there is a connection to the Molitor in Trier region. Pamela, do you know the immigration year of the Molitor family ? Werner J. There is a Paul Molitor living in the Twin Cities, either Minneapolis or St. Paul, more likely one of the suburbs who played major league baseball as an infielder, not a pitcher. Believe his family, or hometown, is St. Paul MN. Pamela, If your ancestor was called John, he may have been Johann or Johannes in Germany. I have a Johannes and an Anna Maria in the Molitor line that married Joannis Melchior Diederich - which their last name would be, not Molitor. Your first step would be finding the original city in Germany - it's a fairly common name. Also, there was a Paul Molitor who was a pitcher for a major baseball team, but I can't locate him now. Ruth
May I join the search for Molitors? I have noted in my database a sister and brother Anna and John Molitor. Anna is my great great grandma. Anna ended up in Hoven SD. Anna's birth May 14, 1853 Germany. Her family moved from Germany, to Michigan, to Minnesota. She was married in Minnesota in 1877 to Peter Schaefer. And they moved to SD in 1885 according to grandchildren. She died 1927, Hoven SD. I do not go back any further. I do not know her father or mother. She was born in Germany according to 1910 and 1920 census. According to my grandma she only spoke German to them. The grandchildren remember that she had a brother John but I have nothing on him. Is this woman in any one's database?
