The Bittburg book is a compilation of Exit-Visa applications from citizens wanting to emigrate, including such information as: Applicant's name and DOB Where resident Family members included, with DOB and names of children Reason for wanting to emigrate Application date Assets (for tax purposes) Decision Bittburg is about 30 Kms north of Trier, but the area Mergen included was wide, running up against the Lux border. There are about 14 other volumes out there from Mergen and others, from areas like Prüm, Trier, Trier-City, Wittlich, Saarland, Saarburg, Bernkastel, Merzig, Ottweiler, Saarbrücken, Saarlouis, St.Wendel. Would be interesting to find out if anyone else having these books would do lookups....... 1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Surname ZIEGELE and PAULUS Luxembourg
    2. Hello everyone, I received information from Jean Ensch about my grandparents, Michael Paulus Married to Anna Bodeving who emigration from Luxembourg. He quoted from the book by Father Rene FISCH; d'Geschicht vum Preitzerdaul. Vol 2, "a chapter on emigration. Wich says: "The oldest known passenger list, with inhabitants of the Preitzel Valley dates from 1886. On April 3 of that year 6 persons from Reimberg boarded the steamship Noordland leaving for New York. They were Jean BODEVING, father 58 years and his two daughters Anna (27) and Maria (24) the latter with her seven year old son Frederic. Over in America she married the father of the child Frederic KOST. (Does this mean that the parents of this child was un-married for seven years of the child's life? or do you think they were remarried in America?) To continue with the article: Also on board Jean KLEIN (24) son of the couple William KLEIN-RUPPERT and Michael PAULUS (29) son of the couple Peter PAULUS-WEILAND from Reimberg.) Now my question is: Does the PAULUS-WEILAND mean that Peter PAULUS was married to WEILAND? if so I do have a real question. My records (written by my grandmother) show that Peter (her father) was married to Susan therefore according to what is written in this book it must be Susan Weiland. However I know for a fact that my paternal great grandfather was also married to a Susan Weiland. They lived in Larochette (Fels) and Peter Paulus lived in Reimberg. Do you think it would be possible for both people to be married to a person with the same first and last name. What do you think???? Frank Ziegele fszzzz@aol.com

    3. Russell, Thanks so very much for your German translation of the information you sent on my immigrant lookup, I have only subscribed to this list for 2 weeks but have learned much. I am busy printing out all the information on languages, map sites, town locations, history, etc, I appreciate the fact that the list members do this, I also subscribed to the Prussia list because I have ancestors who came from what was listed as Prussia, Germany, and other areas. I'm sure a lot of other researchers who only read all the postings, and don't reply, gain much knowledge also. Ellen in VERY WINDY at the moment, South Dakota. ewhite@siouxvalley.net

    3. I have the following Biltgen records in my research although I'm not related to any of them. Even though John Lewis is not mentioned it might give you a place to start looking. 17 Feb 1848 Anne Catharine Biltgen (daughter of Jean Biltgen and Anne Marie Wagner who was born in Heffingen, Luxembourg on 9 Jan 1821) married Nicolas Lammesch (son of Jean Baptiste Lammesch and Anne Marie Flammang who was born in Rinckenbourg ? on 11 Nov 1821) in Medernach, Luxembourg. 2 Mar 1859 Eva Biltgen (daughter of Dominic Biltgen and Marie Wirth who was born in Meysembourg, Luxembourg on 22 Sep 1831) married Georg Theisen (son of Jean Theisen and Helene Erpelding who was born in Nospelt, Luxembourg on 3 Apr 1834) in Kehlen, Luxembourg. 28 Mar 1840 Margaret Biltgen (daughter of Jean PIerre Biltgen and Margaret Michels who was born in Heffingen, Luxembourg) married -- actually just the marriage bans-- Henry Gillen (son of Mathias Gillen and Margaret Haller who was born in Christnach, Luxembourg) in Waldbillig, Luxembourg.
