Hi everybody I just check in the Quebec National Archives and my great-great-great-great grandfather was J. Lautentius Loffart from Burgen, and his father was Jean (!) Loffart and his mother Marie Ann (1) Hambach. My ancestor was born circa 1755 and came to Quebec city as a member of the military forces probably after the American Independancy War. He was Commissioner of the Intendancy, and spoke German, French and English. His father was a Church Notary in Trier. I would appreciate if somebody would communicate any information about Burgen, Hambach or that sources Marc-Antoine Laforte (old Loffart) Mlaf101658@alo.com
Well, I guess I'm wrong on a number of fronts. First of all, I misspelled the village. It is the city of Bocholt, about 40 miles north of Dusseldorf. It is about 140 miles north of Trier. When I first joined the Trier list, it was not at all clear how big an area it was meant to cover. I posted (twice) to the list asking if this was the proper list and if there was any list that better covered the area immediately northwest of Dusseldorf including possibly a bit into Netherlands. Although various people have been very helpful on a number of matters, there was never a reply to that specific question, so I've stayed with the list. Anybody care to respond? I am researching the Schumacher surname. The earliest ancestor I know of is Adam Schumacer. He was born in Herxheim, Landau, Pfalz about 1792, and emmigrated to Selz, Russia in 1809. I can't seem to find any information about any parents or siblings of his. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mary
Leonard FINKEN possible from Aachen Germany area came to MN,USA 1862. Born appox. 1810 died in Chaska,MN 1874.Looking for Village or parish in Germany. Anyone know about this family. Thank you, Florence
I wrote a letter to the Evangelisches Pfarramt looking for information on my grandfather and got an answer telling me the name was not in their records. It also mentioned that in a 10 year census the name was not there. I am now wondering if it was possible that my grandfather was Catholic and if I should direct another letter to the same community but the Catholic church. Does the census they are speaking of refer to the Lutheran church only or is that a town thing? Can anyone answer my question? Peg
A friend recently contacted me asking me to help her find out if at all possible about family of her mothers. Her mother has passed away, and my friend never knew anything about the family. Searching for information on Lena Caroline Entgelmeier/Intgelmeier (or maybe another spelling) who was supposedly born in Westphalia Sept. 30, 1905. At age 18 she boarded a ship in Hamburg, Germany and arrived at a port in New York in 1923. (no records found) It is also possible that her father may have been Henry Entgelmeier and her mother Louise Blaza. That is all that is known about Lena. As far as the friend knows, her mother came here alone to no one and eventually married Howard Maurice Brannon lived for many years in Iowa which is where Lena died. Any help much appreciated. Hi, Russell-- Could you please do a look up for me in the book "Emigration to the Americas from the Bittburg Region in the 19th Century." 1858, Joannes Geiffes, wife Maria Eva Lemmler, child Margaret, in-laws Henricus and Gertrude Mary Drees Lemmler--believe they all came to Schenectady,NY together. They were actually from Bad Bertrich and the Lutzeraf area. thanks joan
