    2. Jenny Kilen
    3. Does any one know where I can purchase the 2 volume set in English of the "Luxembourgers in the New World"? I e-mailed Vail Corp and did not receive an answer. Thought maybe someone out there would have some ideas. Thank you in advance for your response. 1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Response to new list or not
    2. W. David Samuelsen
    3. Before you even try.... The vote was taken by the subscribers several months ago.... and the vote was very overwhelming NO! (over 2/3) Reasons were given.... 1. Trier was the seat of the Archdiocese of Trier covering much of Luxembourg and southwest part of Rheinland (making up much of today's Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland) and still is! 2. Population is too interwoven. You can't break up the families just like that. (My family is spread over both sides - Brausch, Grenz, Baltes, Schwarz, Everhardy, Dockendorf, etc). 3. Economic ties are much deeper than you realize. 4. Printed History has consisently showed Trier to be part of both side for centuries. 5. Trier had been frequently listed as the place immigrants left for America even through they never lived there because Trier is a city close by enough to the villages they actually left. I found several cousins who thought it was Trier when it turned out to be Taben-Rodt, Hamm, Freudenburg, Mettlach, Merzig, Bitburg, Vianden, Remich, etc through Trier-Roots-L. Believe me I did run separately the list for Luxembourg and Rheinland before Maiser crash and consolidated after the move to Rootsweb for the obvious reasons. Separate and you get very very slow list. Common sense and wisdom dictate that Luxembourg, Saarland & Rheinland portion of Rheinland-Pfalz stay together. W. David Samuelsen, listowner

    3. No. the eastern partition (Prussian Partition) was in 1815. Before that the area had been part of Luxembourg for centuries. W. 2. Hello- With much thanks to Werner LicLichter, I have more information on John SCHNEIDER of Neidenbach. He was a stone mason, single, born 12/30/1857 emmigrated with permission of prussian goverment to North-America in spring 1880 (May-June). Now I need to know: what ship (no list I have found shows the ships that left Germany in 1880) Also anything about his parents, siblings, etc. Also am looking for information on ANNA GROSSBACH. She was from the same basic area but married John in the states. Jan Francis (janfrancis@aol.com)

    2. I will sign up for it also. The reason I think is that Luxembourg is part of the Trier list is because of its locality, and remember that until around 1830 a great portion of the Kreis Bitburg area just north of Trier, was, in fact, portion of the country of Luxembourg. Bob Olson

    3. There is also a book, "Gesicht und Geschichte Einer Hochwaldlandschaft by Walter Prum which does not have the genealogical format of Walter Petto's but is nice to read if you read German. It is also out of print as Petto's but you could try to see if it is on microfiche. 1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Theobald
    2. Richard Perkins
    3. Hello I am wondering how to find information re: my ancestor who's name was Bernard Theobald he attended the university of Trier although I'm the family was from Metz France. I remember my Mother telling me that my grandfather fled to america with nothing but the clothes on his back . when due to political upheaval the Germans overtook the portion of France that they lived in and that they were forced to learn German and that even their names were changed (I presume to theobald) I think my Mother must have been confused because it is known that my ancestor was married and came to america with his wife and 7 children . My mother also stated they were born in Trier France and I don't think that is possible either since Trier is in Germany and it is known now that he attended the university there. Can anyone lead me in the right direction for locating his ancestors Patricia Perkins at caviness@abts.net

I have SCHIWER,SCHIWELL in my genealogy. They came from Austria (Tirol)before 1760 and were stonecutter and stonemason. Under the reign of Maria-Theresia, many Austrians came to Luxembourg to work on churches etc. Please consult www.igd-leo.lu where you will find more information about the immigration from Austria and the emigration to the Banat. To my knowledge there are no immigration ledger for families departing Luxembourg. So you must find the villages where they lived and consult the parish records if they exist. 3. Hello Fellow Researchers! I need any help I can get about where my grandfather & family left Germany from. My grandfather, HEINRICH GROENEWALD, left from Germany in 1881 and left Antwerp, Belgium on September 28th, 1881. He had his family with him: wife ANNA (maiden name not known), daughter ANNA MATILDA GROENEWALD (GRUNEWALD, a lot of different spellings), and another daughter by the name of MARGARET(not sure of the spelling). My big problem is that I don't know where or when he left Germany.. He was born in TILL-MOYLAND (Kreis KLEVE) but I think he might have left from somewhere else...He was listed as a miner in the ships passenger list...He may have departed from around OBERHAUSEN as I have heard my mother speak of Oberhausen when I was a child (1932 era). Are there any lists for this kind of thing? Jim Bollinger jimb@evcom.net ==== TRIER-ROOTS Mailing List ==== Brother, Can you spare $10 for Rootsweb? Ask me why ... mailto:dsam@wasatch.com

    3. List Members, Am new to the list and want to make sure I am where I should be for researching my family history. I have found the following entry in the Vienna Immigration Book (Banater Akten) for German colonists moving to the villages in the Banat region: Departing for the Banat, 15 June 1770 from Vienna, Austria: Johann Schivell, 6 P, Steinhauer (stonecutter), aus Luxemburg Valentin Schivell, 4 P, Maurer (stone mason), aus Luxemburg While I have more information on these two families after their arrival in the Banat Hungarian villages of Neu-Arad & Gottlob, I am wondering if anyone can tell me where to direct my query for more information on these families in Luxembourg? Was there an immigration ledger maintained for families departing Luxemburg? And can any of the list members tell me the best way to narrow my search for these families in Luxembourg? I was also wondering if any of the list member history buffs could tell me if any major Luxembourg churches, fortresses or city construction projects were completed around 1770. It seems odd that stone cutters and masons would depart for the Banat swampy farmland (without major stone quarries) unless work was unavailable at home. Jim Schiwal Douglasville

I found 2 Zuesch locations using mapquest, but both are in the Hessen or East of there.
