    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Freilingen, Kr. Bitburg-Prum, Rheinland Pfalz
    2. Hi - On the church marriage record (1798 from Ettelbruck) my relative Valentin Hankes was shown as born in "Freylingen". I tried the town of Freylange in Prov. Lux. and found no Hankes listed there. I now received the civil marriage record for him and his town of birth is written "frailing." I find a "Freilingen" in Rhineland Pfalz (right near the border of Luxembourg) and would like to check their records. I looked in the LDS records for Freilingen and there was no listing. Would anyone have a recommendation where to try next for a birth around 1750 for this town? Would appreciate any help. Thanks. Claire Rozbesky Homertown@aol.com

    3. Hello everyone, I just tried it too and it didn't work today for me either. I did just find the document again by going to: <http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.htm> Enter Debbie Boe as the query and select MN as the state. This yields four matches. The first one is the one I had sent to Karen yesterday that had mention of a Hoffman. I never found a match with St Mary's. Not sure where the info was coming from. Hope this helps. 1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Schonfeld postal code?
    2. Hi, I have been trying to obtain a postal caode for the town of Schonfeld which is about 40 NE of Trier (I'm guessing at that distance by looking at a map). It is closer to Prum. Anyway, the programs that I've tried on the internet don't bring it up. Perhaps it is too small. Do all villages have their own postal codes? I would like to write to the city archives of Schonfeld and I need the postal code. Thanks for any help I get... Joyce wenkerjoy@aol.com

    2. Hi: If anyone wants a New Trier lookup (cemetery, birth death, marrriage, statis annimarum, or early confirmation, I will be glad to oblige). In the meantime- the Dakota Co. Genealogical Society has the transcription of the cemetery including approximately 500 names from death records of persons with no stones and it is indexed. Excuse the plug, but it is available for very reasonable price. We also have the nearby cemetery of Miesville in print.(Miesville named after a person from Dollendorf, Germany) In addition, I have records and transcriptions for the Cemeteries in Hampton and Vermillion. All of the aforementioned cemeteries have numerous persons who emigrated from the Trier and Luxembourg areas. Also, the German Catholic Cemetery in Hastings will soon be put in print(that is another cemetery with many, many unmarked or missing graves) For all of these cemeteries I have used obituaries, death records(county) and church records to increase its accuracy. I also might add that I had done a New Trier Origins book which identifies many of the origins of the early families of the New Trier area. I plan on updating it with more information. Thanks Bob Olson

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] re: GROSSBACH
    2. Hi, I am unable to find anything on Grossbach in either Germany, or US. That is my ggrandmothers name. She was born 1867 in Germany. Have not found the ship she sailed on in Germans to America, have not found her in any census reports but she married my ggrandfather between 1880 census and 1890 for which there is no census anyway, date and place unknown. Does anyone research the name GROSSBACH.

    1. Re: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] St. Mary's Cemetery, USGenWeb Archives by Debbie Boe
    2. Hi: I have not seen the transcription the Miss DeBoe had done, however years ago I had transcribed the cemetery and added in the death records from the church thus making it complete as possible- There are three known Hoffman'Hoffmann families in the area- one is non-Catholic German, the other had roots in Scott Co., MN and I think they may have been from the Dollendorf, Germany area or tied into it somehow. The third was a Hoffman that lived in Hastings and were from the Kehlen, Luxembourg area. The family was somewhat prominent, but I do not think any members of that family were buried at the Catholic Cemeteries outside of Hastings- they were buried at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery( a book on that cemetery is in th making). Hoffman is such a common name that there are undoubtedly others in the area that I do not know of. So, it may not help you too much as I don't know of any Hoffman stones with origins on them and I have transcribed close to 40 cemeteries in the area over the years-and I spent a lot of time on the New Trier Cemetery trying to locate close to 500 unmarked graves!! 1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Information on THE LUXEMBURGER GAZETTE
    2. Suzanne Bunkers
    3. Re the Lux. Gazette: citations in Gonner Vol. 2 list surname, given name and issue/page number of reference in the LG. In searching the LG for references to my ancestors, I've found that obituaries often appear on page 5 but this is not a hard-and-fast rule. The Gonner citation may be to the decedent or a survivor--the citation simply notes that that name is mentioned on a certain page of a certain issue of the LG. If you are working with citations from Gonner, it's best to include any/all alternate spellings of a surname. In my family, for instance, I was searching for SIMMERL but also searched for SIMMERL, SIMMER, SEMMEREL, etc. Spelling was much more fluid a century ago, especially given the changes when immigration to the U.S. occurred. St. Thomas University in St. Paul has the microfilms of the LG, and a researcher there can be hired to do look-ups. Check out the information at:http://members.aol.com/VailCorp/stthomas.html The Bach-Dunn Special Collection at the St. Thomas library has a great deal of information about Luxembourg and immigration history. Its URL is: http://www.lib.stthomas.edu/special/bachdunn.htm ---------------------- Suzanne Bunkers
