    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Trierweiler Photo
    2. Family legend has it that my family came from Trier, Germany. My last name is actually Trier but my father shortened it from Trierweiler. Later I found out that there is a town called Trierweiler. If anyone is interested there is a picture of the town on the web: http://www.trierweiler.de/products.htm Does anyone know anything about the town or have any connections to it? And does anyone know what Gemeinde means? I bet it just means photo because that is the link I hit to see the picture. Mitch Trier(weiler) POB 415 Lisle, IL 60532 paxpooh@aol.com

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Roll Call - Immigration
    2. I am new to the list and don't know how many members are on the list but I assume list members generally have ancestors who came from the Trier area of Germany to America. I would love to see a roll call of the immigration patterns of members on the list with Where in Germany or Luxembourg did the family originate What port did they leave through (and when) What port did they enter though What was the families early migration in the US and Where did they settle You see, I know from obituaries and family lore that my Trier family came from the Trier area and I assume they came via the Great Lakes to where they settled - Stevens Point, WI, however, I have never been able to find the ship they came on or any records in Trier. Obviously, part of my purpose for being on the list is to get some pointers on how I can find those things out. I think this roll call might be educational in that it might show some immigration trends and who knows someone on the list might just find out their ancestors were neighbors or came on the same ship as another list members ancestors. You can bet I'll have questions for anyone who has ancestors who came to Northern, WI. I am looking forward to everyone's stories. Happy Easter Mitch Trier POB 415 Lisle, IL 60532 paxpooh@aol.com

    3. Could someone help me with a little history of Heimbach, Germany, located on the Nahe River about 50 miles North or Northeast of Luxembourg. Naturally, this is where my Heimbach/Heimbaugh/Heimbeaugh family came from. I am a descendant of Peter Heimbach who came to the U.S. in about 1749 with his wife. Any information very helpful, and I thank you. Judy in Oklahoma

    3. Recently I came across a location mentioned in Mergen's manuscript of Trier immigrants. The location is Kalenborn, District of Daun, Prussia. Has anyone on this list heard of this place? I am trying to determine which microfilms I might order from the LDS Family History Center to do further research on my wife's GG Grandfather. The family name is Pflepsen, but I have found it spelled Pflipsen, Phlepsen, Flepsen, Flepzen, Philpsen, Flepps, Pflepson, and Pflipson. At a local Fam Hist Center I did find a listing for Katholische Kirche Daun, (Kr. Daun) and 4 films covering 1656 to 1914. This might be a good place to start, but I have no idea if these films would include the location Kalenborn. Would Kalenborn be a village or town in the county of Daun, or a village near the city of Daun? Denis Taft and Sylvia Pflepsen Taft

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Parishes in Eifel highlands
    2. John O'Brien
    3. MANY THANKS to Werner Lichter for his very useful listing. I just wish I had it 2 years ago when I was looking for my German relatives in this exact area. I live in the U.S. and have access to LDS (Mormon) films. Their film descriptions often leave off some of the towns included in the parish, or is it the other way around? The result is that I ordered many more films then I wanted, and started a similiar but much smaller list than Mr. Licher. Question: How would I get access to the family book for Baustert, town of Brimingen? John O'Brien: Researching for Schmitz's of Baustert & Raligen and about two dozen other towns.

    3. Probably French for a village somewhere in region of Trier. It will take some figuring to locate it. Some villages in the region had very French names during the French occupation of 1792-1814 and no one would know any difference until you check closely. W. David Samuelsen W. The names I have so far in my direct line are SCHENKE, HESSELMIER, DRESSELHAUS, HOLT, FRANTZEN, SCHOVE, MEESE, SCHROER, VAN TALAGE, HARTBEKE or HARTBECKE, HOLT, WIEMERSLAGE between about 1738 and 1868. Would love to talk to anyone else researching these names. Karen Pritchett

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Burgen a/d Mosel
    2. While not Trier, exactly, it's not that far downstream. My wife's KICH/KLEMM/PELTZER/EIDEN/THIEL et al. lines are from there. While some years of the Veldenz records are missing, we have a lot of data on a lot of the folk. CONRAD KICH ame ca. 1848 to Blue Island, IL, with father PETER KICH (shoemaker) and mother CATHERINA geb. KLEMM. Will share with those interested. Dave Ross Denver, CO
