I am searching for information on Peter KOETZ. He emigrated from Luxembourg through Bavaria and arrived in the US (Caledonia, Houston County, MN) on Nov. 21, 1865. I am searching for information regarding the name of the ship he traveled on to America, where he came from in Luxembourg. Also searching for same info for KRESS/KRESSE surname. I have John Francis HANSEN b 1843 Luxembourg and Mary HOLZMACHER b 1846 Luxembourg. They emigrated about 1866 and ended up living in Nodaway Co, Mo. Does anyone have a connection to this family. John Hansen was a shoemaker. Mary's brother, Theodore Holzmacher settled in Albany NY. I have no idea what port they came through, etc. or whether they married in US or in Luxembourg. Any connection out there? Mary kmary@aol.com

Hi Russ, I had problems with your e-mail address, so I'm responding to the broader distribution list. (Sorry everyone!) I have been researching my HANSEN line which was briefly in Geichlingen. Having spent many hours with microfilm of the Catholic church records (late 1700s to mid-1800s) from this village, I can tell you that the name THEIS appears many times. Are you able to rent a copy of the tape from an LDS FHC? I think you would find it very helpful. As you probably know, old Catholic church records are all written in Latin, but they're not difficult to decipher if you can manage the handwriting! All the best, Deb
Hello, I have found that my g.g. grandparents were born in Luxembourg. I don't know where they were from in Luxembourg yet. They settled in Caledonia, Houston County, Minnesota. They may have lived in Montana before settling in Minnesota. Where do I start in trying to find out the ship they traveled on? Thank you for your help! Karen

Russell Theis@CHEDSZURICH 24.04.99 18:14 Hi Listers! Anybody know what the legal age was to marry in 1790 in Churmany? I keep running across minors that need permission, but have no birth record for them, just the marriage date and that they are minors. I could set the DOB to "AFTER marriage date minus legal age" if I knew that..... I'm also looking for any information about the KEIWERS/KEIVERS, THEIS and GALES families from around Geichlingen/Neuerburg. Thanks for the help! Russ in Zürich
http://www.familysearch.org Family History Library Catalog is NOW online To get there - go to the left column click "Browse Categories" then go to "Libraries" then go to "Family History Library Catalog" You will have Place or Surname choices. It is a OLIB - not like the FamilySearch you use at the FHC. W. David Samuelsen

Hello All, I am searching for my husband's line back into Luxenburg. The census was taken in Aurora, Kane Co. IL. and his name on the 1880 census was: MIKE OLINGER or OLLINGER, age 45, b. in Luxenbrug, m Mary age 31, b Luxemburg. Have no other information as to place. Children: Lena - age 12 in 1880 Mary - age 6 Kate - age 3 There were two other children born after that, Emma and William ages. I know this is a stab in the dark but does the name OLINGER or OLLINGER ring a bell with anyone? On the same street was another family of Olingers, father Juo and mother Mary also from Luxenburg. Thanks for any help as to information or a place to start scarching. Betty-Jane bjlee@gate.net
I am searching for information on the Asselmeyer and Altemuller families who, according to family lore, emigrated from Westfalen. The town name is lost in the mists of time, but might be Sudlohn or Stadlohn (sp?) It was near the border, with family references to nearby towns of Osnabrucke and Munster. Johann Heinrich Altemuller (b.1830) was married three times before he left Germany. 1)Louise Grotthaus; 2) unknown; 3) (Frieda) Wilhomenia Asselmeyer. Upon his marriage to Wilhomenia he assumed the Asselmeyer name. I understand that this was often done when a man married the daughter of a man with no male heirs. The family emigrated to Hoboken, NJ in the late 1800's. My mother's father, Herman, a son of his father's third marriage, came to this country as a young teen in 1892. He was a baker by trade, and became estranged from the rest of his family, changing his surname to Martin. He was in San Francisco briefly, then settled in New Orleans in the first years of this century. His siblings were Frieda Asselmeyer, William Asselmeyer, Julius Asselmeyer, Sophie Asselmeyer. Julius and Sophie never married. Frieda married John Rickens. William married Margaret ?. Other family members who emigrated about the same time were August Altemuller, b.1867, a son of Johann Heinrich's first marriage. He married Dorothea Louise Altemuller, a cousin, before he left Germany. He was supposedly the first of the family to emigrate, sponsoring the others later. I am interested in ANY information about these two family surnames. Thanks! Jill Oswalt Goodwin 401 No. 5th St. Alpine, TX 79830
