    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Schabert Update
    2. Cassandra Hanson
    3. List, A couple of months ago I only knew my gggrandmother Theresa Schabert's parents were named Francois Schabert and Margareth Majerus (generation 2 below). When I joined the list I got so much help about where to go, and I ordered some films in the area of Lux. I'm studying to an FHC (all in Echternach). I just wanted to thank everyone for their help and repost what I now have. If anyone connects and would like sources, etc. I'm happy to send them. Also, if anyone has more info. that's always appreciated. Regards, Cassandra Ancestors of Theresa Shabert Generation No. 1 1. 3. To the people of Trier. My mother Anna Salomon was born in August 1900 in Speicher, Kreis Bittburg. During the first World War she studied in Trier. I do not know the exact years of her studies, nor the schools she learned in. If there is someone who knows if and where I can get more detailed information on the pupils of the educational institutions during the years 1912 to 1920 can he please let me know ? 3. I have the surname Zalfen, also near Bitburg. I wonder if there could be a connection to your Halfen family. 1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] LUX Ship List Request
    2. Hi, Brenda, Would you mind looking up my ancestors from Luxembourg in your book containing ship lists? Michel FELTEN was born in 1834 at Erpeldange, canton of Remich, town of Bous, LUX. His parents were Nicolas FELTEN and Catherine FIXEMER, who were married 6 Feb 1827. I have found only one other sibling, Jacques. Michel was in Chicago by 1862, his date of marriage to Christine HARTWICK, daughter of Fred HARTWICK and Sophia WANCK. I don't know where Christine and her parents were from. I don't know when Michel emigrated, if he came alone or with other members of the family. Thanks so much, Pat Nelson PS- Valerie, do we have a connection?

    3. On paternal side looking for Solomon JOSEPHSOHN who immigrated to NY from Germany in early 1900's via Liverpool on the SS Nevada. His family was not listed as being with him. An Enamel Josephsohn immigrated in the late 1880's to NY from Liverpool, but do not know if he is any relation (more on him below). Solomon's wife may have been named Mina. I have seen some postings for immigration from German sites but am unaware of any for those who left Germany to sail from Liverpool; was it cheaper? Does anyone have information on these immigrants? Solomon had a son Arthur in Iserlohn. Germany. We have a copy of this certificate of record and have had it translated for us There his birth is registered as follows Job #90: "the wife of one (long indecipherable 1st name or title) Solomon Josephsohn in Iserlohn on the 11th of Feb. of the year 1884 at 2 o clock in the afternoon, a male child was born....given the name of Arthur". It has been suggested that there was a family by name of Josephsohn in nearby Bercham by one researcher, but no further information was given. Arthur owned candy company in NY. Arthur named his youngest son Manuel (providing possible connection to the Emanuel mentioned above 1st paragraph?) Also, Julius or Joseph SPANIER who immigrated to US as young man or teenager from Hanover Germany..b 1859 d 7/14/1937 married Emily Wolff. Her parents were Marx Jacob WOLFF b ca 1832 in (Leiderhoffstadt?can not find this town) Germany d 1900 and Bertha b in Marbury Germany in 1843 d 1899. I have found a Marx Wolff married to AmeliaBERNHEIM in Macon County, Alabama, USA on 12/28/1855 in the Hebrew Congregation Levy?. Could this be the same couple; was her middle name Bertha? I don't know if these towns should be on this list (or in one case if it exists!). Any information on any of these families would be greatly appreciated as would any help directing me to other pertinent lists or sites. David Josephsohn

    1. Ships listing Luxembougers
    2. Hi Brenda! I would love for you to check on my Lux. family in your ships listings -- they arrived in the US sometime between 1849-1877 The names are Pierre (Peter) BIEVER b about 1830-1840 Mary SADLER b about 1835-40, wife of Pierre Jacob BIEVER b 1861 HARIG, John Sr. or Jr. (Jr., b about 1848) HARIG, Peter or Thomas FELTON, Margareta b 1824 - came to USA about 1849-50 FELTON, Pierre and Nickolas - to USA prior to 1851 NOTE: Mary HARIG b Iowa 1874 - Her mother was Isadora Sidrine FELTON-MARKS b 1850. Her grandmother was Margareta FELTON b 1824, who came over from LUX? pregnant and unmarried about 1849-50. (She later married MARKS). Family rumor says as a young girl, she worked for a royal family in LUX or France, and had an affair with the Prince. When her parents found out what she had done, they cast her off to live in Iowa with her brothers, Pierre and Nickolas FELTON. The Prince had crossed-eyes, and when the baby "Isadora Siderine or Sidrine" was born on Feb 27, 1850, she too had crossed eyes, proving the theory of her affair, and "royal" descendency for Isadora. The name ISADORA SIDERINE was supposedly related to the Royal family somehow. They were all French speaking Catholic, and settled in Black Hawk County Iowa, near Waterloo/Cedar Falls. Thank you very much! 1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Feulen, Niederfeulen, Mertzig, Niedermertzig and Oberfeulen LDS Microfilms
    2. Jim Schiwal
    3. Are there any list members who have done research on the Feulen, Niederfeulen, Mertzig, Niedermertzig and Oberfeulen LDS Microfilms? I would like to order microfilms from the area for Schiwal family research and need information about the numerous films series which exist for the area. The films appear to duplicate some information. Here are the series I've found: #0425015 - Nieder Feulen, Ober Feulen, Feulen, Nieder Mertzig, and Ober Mertzig Church register - Question - is this film for one parish church serving multiple villages or portions of several villages? #1351214 - Mertzig (1808-1810) Catholic Church Register (Item 1) #1980540,41 - Marriage Index Cards Feulen - Are these civil records? And there are other series also. Is there anyone who has researched this area and can recommend a good starting place. My family would have been in these villages at least during the 1750s. Believe Johann Schival or Schiwell and Valarius/Valentin Schiwell may have been from these towns. Your help would be appreciated. Jim Schiwal Douglasville, GA

    1. Re: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Feulen, Niederfeulen, Mertzig, Niedermertzig and Oberfeul...
    2. Hi: The parishes you mentioned- the Feulens belong to the present day commune of Niederrfeulen. Mertzig belongs to the commune of Mertzig. There are all parishes, but there are also civil records for the communes of Mertzig and Niedefeulen. They are comparable to tiny adminstrative districts. The marriage index cards are more than likely the file cards made on the pre-1800 marriages of the area. I have access to these films occasionally when I travelto St. thomas college. I also have a copy of the marriage index for niederfeulen from 1802-1882 but it is not in my computer yet. On the parish/ Parishes, I cannot now answer your question, but I will checkif there is more than 2 parishes. Bob Olson

    2. Betsy Grebisz
    3. On my grandfathers immigration papers from 1908 I have learned that my KEIDEL family is from Muhlheim, Germany. I have been told it is on the river Eis in Bavaria. I cannot find this river on any atlas to help identify which Muhlheim they are from. My cousins father told him it was more of a creek than a river. Has anyone ever heard of this river? Thanks in advance for any possible clues. Betsy researching Keidel Heintz in Germany
