    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] GREEN family
    2. Hello, Looking for information on my ggrandparents Charles L. GREEN and Virginia DUNK. Charles was born in Germany for sure. I am not sure about dates on him. I am guessing that they would be about the same time frame as Virginia. Virginia was born July 5, 1871 in Green Bay, WI. She died in 1942. Their six children were born from 1890-1907. I have some dates on them. I would guess that they married in 1889-90 in Wisconsin. Any information on either Charles or Virginia would be appreciated. Tim Gonnering tgonner104@aol.com

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Just to say Thanks
    2. This was my first message before I started posting but I typed in the address wrong so instead of starting my small barrage with a thank-you I'll finish today's business with one. I I took the advice of more than one person on the list and went to my local LDS Family History Center. I will be forever thankful that I did as I found several family lines in Geisfeld church records. I am going to post them here in a series in hopes something looks familiar to someone. Mitch Trier

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] News from Trier region, vol.1
    2. Lichter
    3. to all readers, two days ago I was in Schillingen near Trier talking with a friend about emmigrants from this region to USA. We talked a lot, too much to write down here. I think I will begin with a family, emmigrated from Waldweiler near Trier to USA in 1862. Hammerschmitt, Franz married to Anna Maria Wirtz in Schillingen 1824 (he was born 12/05/1794 in Waldweiler and died there 1852, she was born 06/08/1801 in Waldweiler and EMMIGRATED TO USA IN 1862 ) This couple had 9 children. Two of them died young, they alle are listed here: Johann Hammerschmitt, born 02/28/1825 (married in Waldweiler), Catharina Hammerschmitt, born 06/22/1826 (married in Waldweiler), Anna Hammerschmitt, born 11/28/1827 (married in Waldweiler and died 1866), Michael Hammerschmitt, born 11/24/1829 AND EMMIGRATED TO USA IN 1854 Anna Maria Hammerschmitt, born 04/13/1832 and died 11/08/1832 Mathias Hammerschmitt, born 07/20/1834 and died 04/09/1837 Maria Hammerschmitt, born 03/30/1836 AND EMMIGRATED TO USA IN 1854 Anna Maria Hammerschmitt, born 09/02/1838 was married to Nicolaus Kraemer AND EMMIGRATED TO USA. They lived in the parish of St.Michael in Chicago. They died in USA,IL,Chicago after 1912. In 01/23/1912 they celebrated their 50-years marriage in St.Michael. (Gonner, Luxemburger Gazette 01/23/1912, page 7) Peter Hammerschmitt, born 07/27/1841 and ? perhaps to USA 1862 ? Does anyone has some infos about this family. I think they all went to USA (perhaps all to Chicago,IL ?). A lady asked in this list for Hammerschmitt some time ago. By the way, in Gonner, Luxemburger Gazette 02/22/1910, page 5 first line is to read: From Chicago, Illinois Mister Peter Adams died after a long illness in Chicago at 02/07/1910. He was born 09/10/1826 in Waldweiler near Trier, Germany. After his time at the military service he was married to Barbara OTTO in parrish Schillingen. A short time after this marriage they emmigrated to Chicago,IL,USA. Since 1855 they lived all the time in parrish of St.Michael in Chicago. Both were some of the pioneers of this parish. Mr. Adams was burried in St.Michaels cemetary 02/10/1910. -------- For this St.Michaels parrish name a new info here from Germany: The name of St.Michaels parrish in Chicago will perhaps have been come from the brotherbound of St.Michaels chappel in Waldweiler who does exist today like the time when the Adams family emmigrated from there to settle down in Chicago. yours sincerely Werner LICHTER volunteer in Germany

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] WEIS family from DIRMSTEIN
    2. My ggg grandfather was Joannes WEIS born June 1, 1810 in DIRMSTEIN. He married Barbara BIHN. Joannes WEIS' parents were Nicolai WEIS and Anna Maria TRAU. Barbara BIHN's parents were Anthony BIHN and Margaret ROTHAERMAL. I am planning a trip to DIRMSTEIN this summer and want to do some advanced research to maximize the benefits of my trip. I am interested in speaking with anyone who shares an interest in these surnames or who has ties to DIRMSTEIN. I am deeply appreciative of any help. Steve Frank, SFrank@friendlynet.com

    3. Kliding is NOT on the Mosel, it is about 5km west of the River. Look for Cochem on the Mosel and Kliding is roughly 8km directly southwest from Cochem. You can get very good maps made by Michelin at any AAA auto club office.
