    3. Hi all: Perhaps someone has an idea I haven't tried: Please! Six BECKERICH brothers left Parish Garnich, Luxembourg about 1690 and went to Parish Bitche in Alsace. Parish Garnich church records show one BECKERICH, Elizabeth. But no males, nor is the mother, Gertrude GUNGLER listed. Nor can the names be found in the records of the village of Beckerich. What else can I try? bob

    2. I want to thank everyone who was kind enough to assist me in locating towns, etc., that I could not find. Expedia was extremely helpful. Thanks especially to Werner Lichter, who once again came to my rescue. Werner, how did you find Hof Faitz? I can't find it on any map -- but that must be the location of my Great, Great Grandmother Margareta Julia OBERTREIS's birth on June 30, 1850. What do you know about the farm Hof Faitz? Again, thanks to all who helped. Everyone is SO NICE! Valerie Hoff vkhoff@aol.com

    2. Someone listed Failz as the name of a town that they were unable to find in the area. You may try "Fels" as a name used for Larochette Luxembourg. Just a thought. Frank Ziegele, looking for Johann Ziegele Larochette (Fels) Luxembourg.

    2. Werner Johannes Lichter
    3. Hello, yes now I am shure: Hellenhausen and not Wellenhausen is corect. The town of Hellenhausen got a part of Eyweiler and now writtwen as Eiweiler. Eiweiler and Hellenhausen got a part of Heusweiler. The registry office of Heusweiler will have all the birth, death, marriages of the towns like Hellenhausen since 1798 up to 1999. They are able to make normal copies of the entries for I think 8 US-$. Their address is: Standesamt Heusweiler Saarbruecker Str. 35 D-66265 Heusweiler (Saarland) Germany/Deutschland phone: Germany-6806-911-0 I will ask the burgomaster for more information if wanted from you. sincerely Werner in Germany -------------------- Florence Notch schrieb: > > I have record of my ggrandfather born in Niedersaubach, Saalouis. 1. Re: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Need help with town
    2. Werner Johannes Lichter
    3. Dear Mrs. Notch, the town of Hellenhausen is a part of the parish of Eyweiler and was located only 450 meter from the parish town away. Today it is a part of Eyweiler in the district of Saarbruecken and Saarlouis. In 1905 it had only 91 roman catholic inhabitans, the town Eyweiler had 638. The other town in the parish was Kirchhof with 142 inhabitans. So the whole parish had 3 towns with 871 roman catholic people and 6 protestants in Eyweiler. Perhaps these towns are today a part of the city of Saarbruecken, the capital city of the Saarland,Germany ? I will look for more information. 2. Werner Johannes Lichter
    3. Hello, St. Vith is today a part of Belguim in the german language region of east Belgium just some miles north of the northern Luxembourg border. It is a nice city. The people there speak Luxembourgian as their language, they speak german and french, too. It is a european city. They do have good connections to the Trier area, specially to Pruem and Bitburg. And not far away from Bitburg are the towns of Orenhofen, the farm calle Hof Faitz,... sincerely Werner in Germany > Subject: > Re: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Help with Location of Towns > Date: > Fri, 06 Aug 1999 00:20:56 -0700 > From: > Joan Born <joanb5@earthlink.net> > To: > Vkhoff@aol.com > References: > 1 > > St Vith is in Belgium in the south near Luxemburg. 3. I have record of my ggrandfather born in Niedersaubach, Saalouis. Godparents from Hellenhausen or Wellenhausen ( can't make out if H or W ). The only Wellenhausen I found on expedia maps was in Bayern. I can't imagine godparents traveling such a distant. Could there have been a town with that name in 1829 and no longer exist? Thank you Florence

    3. Hello Joan, No I don't know what ship my ggrandfather left in. I know that he did travel all the way around the Cape and into Mexico before he ended up in Indiana. I'm not sure why he ended up in Indiana or how he arrived there either. I haven't been able to find out any thing more about him before he came to America or about his family in Trier, Germany. His name was Charles A. Meyer and his parents were Ludwig Meyer and ? Bernasco. At 12:23 PM -0700 8/6/99, Joan Born wrote: >Perhaps that is why my ggrandparents and children left RH Prussia in 1857!! 3. Angie, My great grandfather had to leave Germany in 1857 at the age of 15 or he would have been conscripted into the army. He was not a peasant either, his father was a doctor in Trier, Ludwig Von Meyer. So it may have been more common then you think!
