Does anyone on the list know of and have access toa book by Josef Mergen on the emigration to America from the county of Daun? I understand it has information on persons who emigrated from there in the 19th century. I posted a message asking (amongst others) if MIES and TOOS were Dutch names. I have been told that these names can either be given names and family names. The names appear in my tree as follows and I wonder if they might have come from the Netherlands. I have a Hanns GASSAN born 7 Aug 1788 Heinersbruck, east of Dresden married to a Maria TOOS born 26 Nov 18787 in the same village. Her father was Hanns TOOS. Hello to all ! I am new to the list and am researching the SCHUWERACK families in Trier. I am looking for the parents and the birth place of my ancestor Matthias SCHUWERACK + 1776 in parish St Gangolf / Trier. His first wife, Maria Elisabeth HERMESDORFF, was from Qerweilen (on the mariage record). Does any one know where was Qerweilen ? A letter from the Bistumarchiv tells she was from Trier-Zurlauben. Jan Hello Jan It is a matter of personal taste, I always write in English, and ask them to forgive the letter being in English, the reason I write in English is because I am hoping for a reply in English. However there is a free real people (not computer) translation service, which works by email. My personal opinion, probably not worth much, but if I were to send a German letter, I would include the English version with it, and explain I am not familiar with the language. The article mentioned 20 housekeepings win 1632. Then down to 4 housekeepings after a "threeßigjährigen" war. Back to 17 housekeepings in 1684. I believe the REINERT family was in Brotdorf from before 1710 to 1847. Was this area under constant warfare, or a peaceful farm community? Also interested in the town of Britten.
