    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Re: where is Usch
    2. Hi-- does anyone have an old atlas of the Trier area? I just copied pages from a LDH film that says that some of the family was "ex Usch." Is that an abreviation, and if so for what or is it a very small town that doesn't show up on my map? It should be near Neidenbach, Densborn etc. just north of Bittburg because that is where the other familyl members come from. Thanks for now. Jan

    2. Dick Trum
    3. Hi List ! We found that our ancestor Johannes Tromp (also in the books as Trum and Trumm) was born on may 12 1766 in a place called Giebingen near Trier. Other sources call the place Gilbingen or Giblingen. Can someone shine a light over this as i am not able to trace those villages near Trier. Is it now perhaps a suburb of Trier or so ? greeting, Dick Trum

    3. It's Kastel Stadt (city of Kastel). Katholisch is Catholic Church. You probably were looking at an extracted record found in IGI, were you? Taben is well know to me because that's one of my lines ending up there and I have FAHA in it. Trier is a catch all on many emigration records for many villages around Trier. Taben is southeast of Trier and Kastel is in Saarland, just across the border from Rheinland-Pfalz - short distance from Taben-Rodt (current spelling of the place -even through it is absurd that you can't pull it up on maps.expedia.com with Taben or Rodt or combination of them (!) On my Michelin map copy, it is there for all to see. W. "Katholisch" is German for Catholic, implying they were baptized in the Catholic Church in Kastel-Staadt. Tom

    3. Nochern, the town, is located in the Rhine-Pfaltz area now. Very near the St. Goarshaussen, Wyer, and a few other small villages. I have a Fiscbach family that have had property named Molesberg. It is a large farm located in Nochern. It has many houses on the property and has belonged the to Fischbach's since the late 1770's . A daughter of the one of the Fishbach's still lives there. I have names of the families that were born there. Is there anyone familiar with this area? This is my first time asking anything. I usually just read the information and store it. Diann Anderson Imaginetcetera@msn.com

    2. J. William Helbron
    3. Hello Edward, The town of Hilbringen in the Saarland MAY be the town. Hilbringen, in Kreise Merzig, is the ancestral town for the HELBRON family back to about 1650. Rev. Peter Helbron (9 Jul 1739-24 Apr 1816), a Capuchin missionary to Western Pennsylvania, had his parish in a place called Sportsman's Hall (which he called "Clear Spring"), which is the literal translation of "heller brunnen". I have not heard of the term "canton" used other than in Switzerland, but Hilbringen is about 20 km from Saarburg and Saarburg is about half way between Trier and Hilbringen. Bill Helbron Upland, CA

    3. George -- You are correct... there are a lot of SCHWICKERATH's in Iowa, but I believe these folk come from a SCHWICKERATH family that came from Greimerath, Germany. Greimerath is about 30 km straight south of Trier, Germany, thus about 70 km south of Orsfeld. Charles Anton SCHWICKERATH Jr. of Sapulpa, Oklahoma has prepared a nice website documenting this family (see: http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/Schwickerath/default/) for details. Unfortunately, the site does not include the brothers that Karl-Heinz is interested in, nor does it contain my people. It is a hint on ancestors, though, for both of us, and may be a possibility for the descendants that Karl-Heinz is interested in. Thanks for the thought, Tom Steichen ----- Original Message ----- From: George Hill <papa@cybcon.com> To: Steichen <steichen@bellsouth.net> Sent: Monday, October 04, 1999 10:30 PM Subject: Re: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Orsfeld > A check of the White Pages shows a LOT of these folks > living in Iowa today. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Steichen <steichen@bellsouth.net> > To: TRIER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com <TRIER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> > Date: Monday, October 04, 1999 6:57 PM > Subject: Re: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Orsfeld > > > >> the following immigrants from Orsfeld, Germany, to the U.S.A. were > >relatives on > >> my mother's side : > >> > >> Jakob Brand, born December 1, 1837 > >> Matthias Schwickerath, born January 29, 1844 > >> Michael Schwickerath, born March 2, 1847 > >> Johann Grün (later John Green), born August 13, 1852 > >> > >> Jakob Brand, Matthias Schwickerath and his brother Michael arrived at > >Baltimore > >> on April 8, 1870. Karl-Heinz -- I can't help you with where these people settled in the U.S., but I think it is possible that we have common relatives. My great-great grandfather, Matthias ZWILLING of Wallenborn, married Eva Catherina SCHWICKERATH on Jul 15, 1865 in Wallenborn, and they had 5 children. She was the daughter of Nicolai SCHWICKERATH and Elisabeth SCHMITZ. After Matthias died, she married Johann Frederico PFLÜGER on Sep 24, 1881 and had 3 more children. So far, I have not found Eva Catherina's birth date or birth location, as neither appear in the Wallenborn church records during the appropriate time period. If I have my geography correct, Orsfeld is near Bitburg and Wallenborn is less than 20 km further up Bundesstraße 257. Do you recognize these people? If not, do the SCHWICKERATH's have a long history in Orsfeld? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Tom Steichen Winston-Salem, NC USA

    3. Is anyone familiar with the records for Hergersweiler near Bad Bergzabern (just north of Wissembourg/Weissenburg Alsace). I am looking for Catherine Roth, born 6 Sept 1808. I believe that there should be both civil and church records, but the FHL does not seem to have either for the relevant time period for me. I am not sure where in Germany (or France?) these might be. I would be thankful for any help. James Maxeiner
