Hello all, Does anyone know about this use of "aa"? I am curious because my family name that I am researching, SAVENER, appears to be spelled "SAAVENER" in the church records of Besch, Saarland back in the 18th century. Amy Gray

Hi: I have been digging for clues for my Naumann family of Namborn. On familyserch.com I found this familienbuch for Oberthal: Familienbuch der Pfarrei Oberthal, 1803-1879 by Alois Hans or Hans Alois. Does anyone have access to this book? Or suggestions for me? Thanks, Johnna St Clair
Hi Everyone: It is more than a year since I received the birth record of Katherina Naumann from Namborn civil records. I still have gotten nowhere on finding the marriage of her parents or the birth of any of her siblings. I have been squinting through roll after roll of microfilm of all the surrounding villages' church records. I have written to Namborn (a year ago) and have had no reply. I have been searching through every Naumann on the Rudi Jung CD. No matches. I am beginning to wonder if I have read the names of her parents correctly. Do you suppose you might be willing to take a look at the scan of the record and give me your thinking as to what the names might be? I tried this a year ago, but thought I would give it another go. Here is the link to the document on my website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~johnnasgenealogypage/Birth%20Record%20of%20Katherina%20Naumann.htm Thanks in advance, Johnna St Clair

Was waren seine Pflichten?
Do you know the ancestral lineage of Irmina REIS? I have the REIS name in my ancestry, they were from Schweich, which is just northeast of Trier. Thank you. Or, better still, can you put me in touch with a church or historical group who might have records or other information about the ancestry of Jacobum Herres and Irmina Reis? Also, does anyone know the most probable route and port of embarcation that my grandfather would have used from Detzem/Trier to New York City in 1874-75? I have read that certain German port cities were preferred by immigrants from different areas of Germany. Thank you/Danke, R. Bruce Earle [email protected]
One of my great-grandma's came from Detzem, Anna Catharina Kropf. I would think they emigrated via Antwerp, Amsterdam, or France, either LeHavre or Brest. Antwerp would be the closest. I dont know where Anna Kropf sailed from, but she landed in the Port of New York in 1870. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Earle" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 2:19 PM Subject: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] HERRES surname in DETZEM > My grandfather, Jacob Herres, was born in Detzem, Rheinland on Aug. 6, 1857, son of Jacobum and Irmina Reis Herres. Marilyn, The name of the cemetery is "Staedtischer Friedhof" (municipal cemetery). We Trierers just call it "Hauptfriedhof" (main cemetery). It is by far the biggest cem. in Trier. The cem. itself is in a street called "Hospitalsmuehle". The adress of its administration is another: Stadtverwaltung Trier Gruenflaechenamt Gaertnerstrasse 62 54292 Trier/Germany e-mail: grünflä[email protected] (with dots on "u" and the first "a"!) or visit www.trier.de They are responsible for all municipal cemeteries. But I don`t think that someone is buried under the memorial. It was erected in 1842 (abt. 30 years after the napoleonic wars) to honour the men who fought for the french. It was not errected by the prussian govt., but by veterans. I have never seen it with my own eyes, someone told me about and I read about it in the chronicle of our city. Marilyn, Here is a list for Napoleon's soldiers; http://norbert.hames.com/Napoleon/Soldats.html I found some family names but not necessarily grave sites, but it might be a start. Jim K - Lux

Monica, Your first effort is to visit your local LDS Family History Center and rent the approproiate microfilm that contains the records for your family. The online LDS Family History Library catalog (http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp) shows they have a number of microfilms for Aachen. This could tell you if there are still family in the area. Then again you could contact your cousin who submitted the data on that same family to the LDS Ancestral File (see http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp). The Ancestral File entries show a number of children, some of who immigrated to the USA. Some sayed and may have had families. BTW, your cousin says that Peter's mother's name was Henks and they came from Manderfeld. >Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2002 13:40:18 +0000 >From: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Hilgers > >My grandfather Peter Hilgers was born in Aachen in >1873.
