    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] Orscholz History
    2. aellis
    3. Here is the e-mail I received from my new German cousin about the History of Orscholz.

    1. [TRIER-ROOTS-L] History of Rettel, France
    2. aellis
    3. I received an E-Mail form my newly found German cousin in Borg. She has sent me an E-mail about the History of Rettel, France in German.

    3. Hello, Beurig is the correct writing and Beurich the spelling. Today it is a part of the city of Saarburg at the river Saar, 15 miles southwest of Trier. From this area a lot of people emigrated in the 1840`s and 1850`s. The emigration lists in Mr. Mergen´s book gegin late in 1857. So the former emigrants are not listed in his book. The emigrants without a permission are not listed, too. The emigrants names from Beurig are: Hauser, Jaeger, Schuh, Weber, Kronenburger, Adams, Wagner. Werner Lichter Gilzem/Germany ################ > > Hello, > In reading comments about the history of Borg and its previous > spellings, I am reminded of my ancestor's tombstone inscription-- > "Johann Tressel, Geb Beurich, Kries Trier, Regieringshezsch Saarberg, > Geb 17 June 1797." 3. Hello, Thanks to listers for the information. Johann stated on his intention to become a citizen of the U. S. that he immigrated from Hamburgh and arrived in May, 1853. If that is correct, he was 56 years old when he immigrated. He brought at least three grown children with him, Adam, John, Elizabeth, and Anna Maria. His son Adam was born in what we think is Pellingen, so he apparently lived there, too. Were there conditions at that time that people were trying to avoid or was the hope of inexpensive land ownership a great incentive? Ann

    3. Hi- guess I will add a wee bit of my Michels family here also: I have an Anna Maria Michels marrying in the village of Welchbillig in 1767 to Johann Frantzen ,b. 1738 also of Welchbillig. I do not know the parents of Anna Maria. Perhaps this will help locate some " older " Family members. 3. Ernst, You're sure about that? I always thaught that since I pronounced it "ich" but it was written "ig" my pronounciation was dialect... Don't tell me I spoke correctly all this time? :-))) In any case I looked in my Duden, where of course Beurig is not listed, and found for "ewig" the pronounciation "ewic" which for me reads as "ig" and not "ich" for which the pronounciatio would be written "iç", same thing for "König" whose pronounciation is written "künic" and not "küniç". But then I alwasy had trouble reading those dictionnary pronounciations. 3. Barbara, nouns with the ending "-ig" are pronounced as "-ich" in high german. Thats not dialect. So it is correct to say "Beurich or "Koenich" or "ewich". Take a look at the phonetic transcriptions in the Duden or Wahrig dictionaries. 3. Hello, In this case you were right with Beurig. In the area the "ig" finals are often pronounced "ich"... that's dialect :-) And as they often wrote according to sound, it's logic to find "Beurich". Obviously, many naive spelling errors in it. I had decided that "Beurich" was Beurig, but possibly it should have been Borg? Yes! See what I have below. My interest stems from Henry Michels wife Anna Neis sister to my great-grandmother Margaretha Neis Bold. My connection to that generation was closer, perhaps, than yours. That's how I happened to receive and preserve the photo albums that belonged to my grandparents with all their relatives "back east". I may have some more information on the Uniontown WA line in the vertical file but first must look. I'll get the photos together to send. Joe

    3. Hello, In reading comments about the history of Borg and its previous spellings, I am reminded of my ancestor's tombstone inscription-- "Johann Tressel, Geb Beurich, Kries Trier, Regieringshezsch Saarberg, Geb 17 June 1797." Obviously, many naive spelling errors in it. I had decided that "Beurich" was Beurig, but possibly it should have been Borg? Johann came to Illinois in the early 1850's. Ann

    3. I am researching my ancestors who come from a cluster of towns/villages located near Kreis Krueznach. I know how and where to find parish and civil records for these towns but I can't seem to get a handle on how to record the various locations across time in my Family Tree Maker database. For example: was Kreis Krueznach always part of Koblenz? During what years was it part of Prussia, French Republic, Germany, etc. Here are the towns I am searching during the years 1760 - 1832: Bretzenheim Heddesheim Winzenheim Wallhausen Rudesheim Waldhilbersheim Sponheim Planig etc. I would appreciate any help in understanding this history and geography of this area. Regards, Nancy
