In the Civil War these E TN families were mostly for the Union but the rest for the southern cause. E TN was a hot-bed of bad feelings (the worst in the war) over these divisions. Some of the USA Treadway's are known to have killed some of their CSA inlaws [re: Adventure's of Capt. Daniel Ellis & History of the 13th Cav.] The Indian issue was also strong in this area and many of the surnames sound English or German but they were highly intermarried with the Native Americans in the very earliest years of migration and this may have leas some not to admit to their Indian lineage. [It's a very detailed story but I would be happy to try and share all the feelings these people were going thru in the 'first years' of settlement.] **Attison and Robert Treadway, and their half-brother William Treadway were members of the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Washington Co TN. Their Baptistism records are there in 1880-81; as is Tennessee Chase's. Well, I have written another short-novellette, here, instead of an e-mail but I hope some of this can help you. Let me know what you think and I will help any way I can. Claudia (proud product of E TN :-)
