Thank you so very much, Tina, for that very enlightening information! I have sent off to the National Archives for "my" Daniel Treadaway's Revolutionary papers--of course, it takes months to get anything back. How doubly confusing that both Daniels were married to Marys. I will keep my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that there were indeed two Daniels and that the Daniel who married Mary Buffington was also in the Revolution. Thanks again, Sharon
Sharon, You mean besides me? I have twenty six Daniel Tre(a)d(a)ways in my computer file, including myself. In most cases I have relied for my information on William Tredway's n1920 /History of the Tredway Family/ and on Randy Treadway's web site. Those born before 1760 are: Daniel Tredway (1724-1810) lived in what is now Harford County, Maryland. He married Sarah Norris. They are my 5great grandparents, and I have a list of their descendants on line at <http://showcase.netins.net/web/treadway/genealogy/index.html>. He had a son Daniel born 1747 who married in 1782 to Mary Young, and is said to have lived in Philadelphia. There is a tradition that one Thomas Treadwell came to New England in 1712 or 1715 with an uncle who was an innkeeper, wealthy, and single. The uncle had promised to make the boy his heir, but afterwards married a young woman and had children. In disgust, Thomas quit New England for Maryland, and took the surname Tredway. Another tradition in the family tells of one Amos Tredwell, an Episcopal minister "from the north, probably Connecticut," who visited the descendants of Thomas in Virginia. This man told that a brother or nephew of his father changed his name to Tredway. Thomas Treadwell alias Tredway is said to have had a son Daniel born say 1730. I know nothing further of this man. Thomas Treadway and Mary Ball of Maryland had a son Daniel born in 1737. I know nothing further of him. Another Daniel Tredway married Mary Jones in 1776 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. This man seems to have been born about 1752, son of Richard and Elizabeth (Coles) Tredway of Baltimore County, Maryland. Daniel Tredway who married Mary Buffington and lived in South Carolina appears to have been born in 1760, son of Richard and Mary Tredway. This Richard was a son of Richard and Martha Tredway of Baltimore County, Maryland, and an elder half-brother of the Daniel Tredway who married Mary Jones. A grandson, Francis Marion Treadway, stated in his autobiography that Daniel who married Mary Buffington had two horses shot from under him at the Seige of Augusta, Georgia, during the Revolution. I hope I haven't made too many mistakes here, and if I have, I hope folks here will send corrections. I'll try to give answers to any questions that arise. -- Dan Treadway P O Box Gilbert IA 50105 [email protected] http://showcase.netins.net/web/treadway/ -----Original Message----- From: Sharon DeLoache [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 10:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [TREADWAY-L] Two Daniel Treadaways?
