CARMELITE first appears on the US census records in 1860 Louisiana. Her parents are: 1850 LA census: Andre Treadaway, born circa 1814 LA & Virginia (possibly SOLIS), born circa 1826-7 LA. Andre is listed as a rice planter and has several siblings in the same area. 1860 LA census: Andrew Treadaway (age 47) & Rosalia (age 33) are presented as CARMELITE's (at age 7) parents. Andrew is listed as a carpenter. 1870 LA census: Andrew Treadaway (age 58) & Virginia (age 45) are presented as CARMELITE's (at age 17) parents. Andrew is listed as a farmer. CARMELITE, & her siblings, (compiled from census), are: 1) FELIX (aka JEREMIAH) (b c 1845) 2) HEZ. (HEZEKIAH) (aka PAUL) (b c 1847) 3) ANTHONY (aka ANTOINE or HIPOLANTE) (b c 1849) 4) CARMELITE (aka CARMEN or CARMELETA) (b c 1852) 5) AMANDA (aka PALMYRA) (b c 1855) 6) JULIA (b c 1857) 7) ENOS (b c 1861) 8) ANN A. (b c 1863) 9) LYDIA A. (b c 1867) Andre/Andrew Treadaway is a son of a Henry Treadway/Treadaway who migrated to Louisiana from the New Jersey Treadway clan; some of whom also went into the Ohio frontier. Check for ship departures/arrivals from New Jersey to the Port of Orleans in the late 1700's for this Treadway migration. [The progenitor, Henry Tredway/Treadway (aka Tredwell), lived in Virginia when he married. Shortly thereafter he migrated to New Jersey --from there his family began the migration to Ohio and Louisiana --- some of the Louisiana clan went northward into the Missouri area (watch out for a Treadway surname mutation). These Treadway's came to New Orleans in the late 1700's and lived on the large rice and sugar cane plantations. They were intermarried with families of Spanish, Cajun and French heritage. [The surname is, at times, spelled with the 'French flair' and inflection.] Happy hunting! cj
