Do you know if Confederate soldiers' widows received pensions or not? It is my understanding that they did not but I may be wrong. I have assumed that he was in the Union army. Let me know what you find out. I have also searched, via Internet, cemetery records for him in and around Fort Smith, AR but have not found a burial site for him yet..
