I have, for years been told that there was a line of African American Treadways but during all of my research, I have never come across any. What part of the country are your Treadways from? I lost all my research to Hurricane Katrina and now live in Tennessee. But have begun researching once again. If this is of any help to anyone, I think that Jeremiah was in Louisiana before 1800 and this is the reason for thinking that: Taken From The Louisiana State Papers Dated January 31, 1834 The Louisiana State papers refer to claims against the United States as a result of the Louisiana Purchase. The claims were founded upon continous possession and cultivation prior to December, 1793. The following index lists not only land owners of claimed land, but also neighboring landowners and in the case of grants, the earliest owner. Both the claim number and its page in the State Papers are included. Jeremiah TREASWIG (Treadway)-------------------------- # 8, p. 21 I know that all my copies of records I had from the court house from the early 1970's are gone. But once in a while I run across something. I had copies of the land grants, but had means nothing now. I hope this will help someone. My mother is looking for an old friend that she knew while working at Torbett Hospital in Marlin, Texas in the 1940's. She was only known as "Tot" Treadway. Does anyone know what her given name may have been, or know anything of the family? This would have been in Falls County.

Unconfirmed but always believed my ancestore came form Georgia and settle in Alabama There are presently Treadways in Georgia and Alabama In Alabama large amounts of Treadways in Lawrence and Franklin Counties of North Alabama..
