    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: harolddamron Surnames: Treadway, Pigg, Dewitt Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.treadway/477.5/mb.ashx Message Board Post: With the help of a certified genealogist in Kentucky, I have found documentation that clearly supports Thomas Jefferson Treadway being the son of Moses & Mary Catherine. First, the reconstructed marriage records of Owsley County, KY (the original records were destroyed in a courthouse fire) list Thomas Jefferson marrying Demanda Lutes in 1845. Thomas Jefferson's parents are listed as Moses and Mary Catherine. Second, a lawsuit was filed in Powell County, KY by one Anderson Pigg shortly after Moses' death. The suit alleged that Pigg purchased land from Moses before he died and that he, not Moses' heirs, was entitled to it. The judge summoned all of the heirs, including one "Thomas" of Owsley County. The 1850 census lists three Treadways in Owsley County, including one "Thomas" with a wife, Demanda. The 1853 Owsley County tax records indicate one "Thos J". Third is the matter of Thomas Tillery Treadway. While this research didn't prove or disprove his relationship to Moses and Mary Catherine, marriage records clearly show that he was living in Indiana by the 1830's, where he died ca 1870. Taken with the above information, he is clearly not the "Thomas" listed as an heir in the suit. Since only one "Thomas" is listed as an heir, and it evidently refers to Thomas Jefferson, not Thomas Tillery, this might cast some doubt that Thomas Tillery is related to Moses and Mary Catherine. The discovery of the lawsuit provided the key information to help resolve this matter. For those of us who have had previous doubts about Thomas Jefferson being the son of Moses and Mary Catherine, I think this information removes that doubt. 1. [TREADWAY] Jesse Treadway
    2. Anita McClung
    3. Can anyone tell me how Jesse Treadway, born 1800 in Virginia fits into the other Treadways on the eastern sea board. According to John Lykins will filed in Kanawha County in what is now West Virginia, he names Jesse Treadway as his son. Jesse's mother was supposed to have been Mary Treadway or Kincaid and it is not known if she was John's wife or perhaps Jesse was orphaned and raised by John and his wife, Mary. It has also been said that Jesse was a direct ancestor to all of the Treadways that can be found living in WV today, including myself. Thanks for you time. Anita McClung 3rd gr. granddaughter of Jesse Treadway and Mahala Johnson

    3. Arley, I have no information on this family but I can tell you that according to her birth record, Nannie was the daughter of Edward Tyree and Judith.  However apparently Judith used the name "Juda" as that is how it is on the birth record. I am an avid Treadway researcher as my maternal line can be traced back to Jesse Treadway and Mahala Johnson. Question for you. What Meadows line do you descend from? Jesse Treadway, grandson of Jesse and Mahala married 3 times. His first wife was Eliza Meadows from Boone County, WV and his third wife was Barbara Smith, d/o Martin Smith and America Meadows. It is this line I am currently researching. Anita Mc.. Fayette County, WV
