I very recently obtained a copy of The History of the Tredway Family by William T. Tredway. A helpful person at Powell's Books in Portland directed me to the website, Bookfinder.com. That website, in turn, found several copies for me at various prices. In short order, I bought one for $35. including shipping, which has turned out to be in excellent condition. The Powell's person also mentioned another website, Half.com, and a place she called, Abracadabra, with a telephone number, 800 545-2665. Give those a try and I'll bet you can find another copy. Treadway was the son of Moses and Catherine DeWitt Treadway (Catherine was the daughter of Peter DeWitt -- a Revolutionary War veteran). The marriage bond of Moses and Catherine is at the Clark Co. KY Courthouse (1794 I think). Anyway, Moses was the son of John Treadway (1741-1834), who had moved to KY (then VA) from Charlotte Co. VA ca 1785. He had been awarded 50 acres for his service in the French and Indian War. John left a will in Montgomery Co. KY in 1834. John was the son of Richard Treadway II of Cumberland Co. NC (1706-1774). Richard also left a will. Richard was the son of Richard Treadway I of Maryland. He died ca 1720 in MD. There are tons more details. This family is, in my opinion, very well documented, and as I have time I can steer you toward the sources I have found helpful. Good Luck!
This is in response to Russell Treadway's contribution. Would his ggggrandfather be Peter DeWitt Treadway? If so, my information is that he was the son of Moses Treadway and Catherine DeWitt. Moses Treadway was the son of John Treadway, Sr. The Treadway website can give you the previous generations back to 17th century England. If you prefer, I can give you chapter and verse as I have them and would be glad to do so. Meanwhile, I would appreciate having more details about Peter DeWitt Treadway and later generations. I have it that he was married to Margaret Evens, and that there were seven children. I'd like to add to that, if Russell Treadway is willing to oblige. Tom Haddow

Gayle, Here is what I have on R T Treadway and his forebears. I must caution, however, that I have done no research in original records on this family. I can only pass on what others have provided, and cannot vouch in any way for its accuracy. Most of what is here comes from <http://members.tripod.com/~Randy_T/RichTread.html>, which I think is generally well done. Hello, Hoping someone on this list can help me out. I am a descendant of William Franklin Treadaway/Treadway born 1848 in Pickens CO SC. I have him as being the son of R.T. Treadaway and Arminda Isbell. R.T. being a son of Richard born about 1780 and Nancy (unknown) On William Franklin's marriage certificate in Forsyth Co GA, it lists the bride and grooms age, where born, and both parents. R.T. is listed as Toliver. A lady on the Isbell family has that R.T, is Paul Tolliver and that he is the son of William Treadaway born 1787 and Dorcas Cox. I haven't been able to find Arminda and her three children on the 1850 census, or R.T. and Arminda on the 1870 census. They are in Cherokee Co GA in 1860 and then in 1880, Arminda and sons Thomas and John are in the same home and Arminda is a widow. Their son, William Franklin is also in Cherokee Co with wife, Margaret Satterfield and two daughters, Adeline and Harriet Oveline. If anyone has any information on these people, I really would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks, Gayle

There were 7 sons - William W.; Addison; Robert; Charles C.; David C.; Elbert Boone; and James Treadway. I can't imagine that there wouldn't be any children from all of these boys! She married my grandfather, Alvin Weldie Dent, and after the birth of their 3rd daughter, they moved to Pennsylvania where my grandfather was originally from. The only one of my grandmother's family that I ever saw was her sister, who was 3 years younger, Lula Louise (Treadway) White. Aunt Lu lived in Bristol, TN on Anderson Street and my family, along with my grandparents, visited with her in August of 1947. It was the most wonderful vacation I have ever taken and one I'll remember for the rest of my life. I still stay in touch with second cousins who live in the area of Bristol.
