    1. Re: [TREADWAY-L] Clarice Cox book on Treadaway Family
    2. There is a copy of the book at Samford College in Birmingham, Alabama. The book is no longer being published, the reason I know is that a few years ago I spoke to Clarice Cox on the phone & that is what she told me, I do not know if the lady is still living or not. Samford College will not let you copy all of the book, for I tried a few years back even though I had permission from Mrs. Cox. The book is quite interesting, hope this might help you some. Sincerely, Neal Treadway

    3. Thanks so much for the input! Golly you fellows are speedy! The reason for my quest: several months ago my husband Dan--the Treadaway descendant--saw a program on the History Channel which dealt in part with the Sons of the American Revolution. Dan, being an old American History teacher, thought that was just the kind of thing he would be interested in. So I began hunting down documents which would establish his genealogical link to Daniel Treadaway--Dan's gggg grandfather--who was in the Revolutionary War. Thus far I have managed to accumulate a fairly nice collection of Marriage Records, together with a certified copy of Thomas Treadaway's Will from 1874, Land Patents for Thomas Treadaway and his son James M., several Death Records, and as many census records as I can find. I have sent off to the National Archives for a copy of Daniel's Revolutionary War papers, but it will be some months, I'm sure, before I receive them. The volume of requests and the backlog at the NARA must be truly monumental. My major problem--as I see i! t, anyway--is a definitive linking of Thomas to Daniel. In the Clarice Cox book there is a copy of a record made by Francis Marion (Frank) Treadaway in which he speaks of his grandfather Daniel who "was a faithful soldier in the Revolutionary War" and his uncle Thomas; I'm hoping that this will be accepted as a legitimate document--we'll see. As far as I have been able to determine, Daniel Treadaway/Treadway has not been the source of membership for anyone in either the SAR or the DAR. If I am able to accomplish this endeavor, it will perhaps make things easier for future (or current) Daniel Treadaway descendants who might be interested in doing the same thing. Naturally, the DAR and SAR want copies of original documents rather than anything simply printed off the internet--or at least that is my understanding. Sharon

    3. Sharon, You might be able to get the information you need by accessing the online catalog of a library that has a copy of this book. I went to the Library of Congress at <http://www.loc.gov/>, clicked on "search the catalog" then on "basic search" then on "Author/Creator" Search Type box. It typed in "Cox, Clarice" the the Search Text box, and clicked on "Begin Search". That took me to http://catalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?Search_Arg=Cox%2C+Clarice&Search_Code=NAME_&PID=1828&SEQ=20020422085709&CNT=25&HIST=1> where I clicked on "Cox, Clarice S" and then on "Treads of Thomas Treadway" to find: LC Control Number: 85070534 Type of Material: Book (Print, Microform, Electronic, etc.) Brief Description: Cox, Clarice S. The treads of Thomas Treadaway / compiled and edited by Clarice S. Cox. Carrollton, Ga. : C.S. Cox, 1985. 187 p. : ill., ports. ; 29 cm. Maybe this will give you the information you need. --- Dan Treadway P. O. The few facts that I have about Benjamin Franklin Treadway are he was born (date ?) in Missouri, married Eliza May, (date ?) died in 1862 while serving for the Confederacy during the Civil War; is buried in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. I have been told that Benjamin and Eliza were third cousins. He and Eliza had two sons, (1) James Abraham, b.4-22-1861 at Ft. Smiith, Ark., died 4-4-1930 in Perry, Okla. James was married to Mary Elizabeth Milliron on 10-2-1882; (2) Benjamin Franklin Jr., b. 1863 in Missouri, d. 1937 in Clinton, Okla. Benjamin married Elizabeth Rowena Biggs, (date ?) in Missouri. They had 6 children, Leora (Weeks), Frank Richard (my father), a twin to Frank Richard who did not live, Zack Taylor, Charlie Albert, and Lester Jerome. All children were born in Texas or Oklahoma. After Benjamin Franklin Sr. died, Eliza May Treadway married Jeptha Kite (date and place ?). They had two sons, Richard, b. 1869 and Jeptha Jr. b. 1870. I can't get any farther back than Benjamin Franklin, Sr. I wish someone could help.
