Hi, I am in search of info on the Treadaway family that married into the Lawrence family of FAYETTE CO AL. I would like to find out more about these early families and any help would be appreciated. Thanks Betsy
I am new to this list and just wanted to tell everyone "hello." My name is Anita McClung and Jesse and Mahala Treadway were my maternal 3rd great grandparents. I live in good ole' Fayette County, WV. I descend from Jesse by way of his son, William that married Nancy Bibb (also related to me on my paternal line) and their son, Jesse that married 3 times and had at last count, 24, maybe 25 children. I am the granddaughter of Sam Treadway who was the oldest son of Jesse and his third wife, Barbara Allen Smith. I have lots of information including birth and death dates as well as burial information. I would love to share what I have if you want it. What can I say about the younger Jesse than it is very apparent that he liked women! <grin> Sincerely, Anita McClung Fayette County, WV

I haven't read you posting about the murder. I'm trying to help a friend find his grandfather, Charles Treadaway (note different spelling) who left his family never to be heard from again. This Charles was born in Texas (maybe) ca 1895, moved to Jefferson County, Al, married and had a son, divorced wife and disappeared. Word had it that he ended up in Montgomery, AL, but no one really knows. I haven't found him on any census so far. Wouldn't it be interesting if he happened to be the same Charles.

Surnames: Treadway Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mYSBAEB/286 Message Board Post: Edward Treadway (1784-1859) was an early resident of Cass County, Illinois. He was born in Harford County, Maryland. There he married on 20 March 1810 Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Daniel. She was born 8 May 1789 in Harford Co. By 1819 Edward and Elizabeth were in Hamilton County, Ohio where son William Thomas Treadway (1819-1912) was born. The family was located in Cass Co, Ill by 1829. Elizabeth died 11 Dec 1831 and was buried on the farm located in Section 10 of then Monroe Precinct (Township 17 North, Range 11 West). Today the Township is known as Arenzville Twp. Edward followed in 1859 and their place of burial is known as the Treadway-Miller Cemetery. See page 28 of the 1966 booklet: "Old Cemeteries of Cass County Illinois" by Arthur Crumrin. Thanks to the considerable efforts of the late Oswell Garland Treadway, a great grandson of Edward & Elizabeth, we know about many of the family descendants. In 1976 a privately published manuscript was issued containing over 40! 0 pages. The hard bound volume is entitled: "Edward Treadway 1784-1859 and His Descendants." A later copy of the manuscript is deposited at the Newberry Library in Chicago, Illinois. My wife and son are descendants of Edward & Elizabeth via grandaughter, Margaret Elizabeth Treadway (1852-1934) who married Ahija Rice Morris. Margaret was the daughter of William Thomas and Mary (McHenry) Treadway. We welcome contact from others researching this family.

Treadway's unit was in the Union service. My understanding is that these Provisional Enrolled MO Militia units were not paid by the Federal Government, but by the local government. So, Eliza probably did not recieve a pension for him. She may have received a pension for her second husband Jeptha KITE.

Do you know if Confederate soldiers' widows received pensions or not? It is my understanding that they did not but I may be wrong. I have assumed that he was in the Union army. Let me know what you find out. I have also searched, via Internet, cemetery records for him in and around Fort Smith, AR but have not found a burial site for him yet..

Treadway and his service record in the Civil War. It was my understanding that he was in the Confederate Army. I have actually found the name of the unit, but still haven't found his name with them. First, I found the pension card that Eliza applied for with his name on it. After guessing at the initials, etc. I finally found a site that shows that the F 72 Prov En M M stands for : 72nd Provisional Enrolled MO Militia with service in southwestern Missouri, particularly Springfield. I have written to the owner of the site (a professor who has written book on the war) and hope that he will reply to my querie regarding a list of those in this unit. I'll keep you posted...it is my understanding from reading this, that he was with the Union. I could have misread the info though.

I find these families have much in commom with my Jerimiah. He was born Jerimiah Quicksell Treadaway in Deptford Cty., New Jersey. Born ca 1777 to Henry Treadaway and Debora Quickell. Henry and Debora were married in 1773 in St Michael Zion Church in Philadelphia. Debora has a brother Jonathan Quicksell. On the 1850 census in Ohio Jerimiah and wife Harriet had twins, Hannah and William. My Jerimiah had twin grandchildren.. In fact I have twin cousins on this line. It's been a while since your post, have you found anything. I am sure these families are connected. Sally New Orleans

I also found accidently another Jerimiah Treadaway bn ca 1800 in New Jersey on the 1850 census of Washington Cty., Ohio. Living next door is his brother Jonathan. Their are so many things that tie these families including the fact that the Ohio Jerimiah also had twins. Have you found anyhing new since you last post? Sally New Orleans

My family's Alice Treadway , aka Alice Virginia Fry, was my great grandmother. She lived much of her life in Indianapolis IN. I don't think they are the same person. I know a bit about her, but don't think she ever lived in New Orleans. If you have a timeline for your father, or Alice's age in 1946, that might be enough information to help someone else on this list to find him ot her. Good luck with your family search.
